The magneto rotor I have on my 96 600 xt looks more like the one for the electric start as it kinda looks like a brake rotor. However the parts catalog and the one I got when I bought a used coil is different. I know there is the whole rotating mass thing, but I'm wondering which I should be using. I just put the original one I had on it. (Bought the sled second hand and as far as I know it never had electric start.)

I have a lightly used/excellent condition Non-elec start flywheel(rotor) off of a '96 600 and yes it looks kinda like a brake rotor, the elec start version has a gear cut onto end/edge where the "flat plate" (brake rotor) section is, there is no difference to using either one if you don't have elec start. Yes, it is fine if you used your original flywheel. Now, if the coil is a bunch different then you may have a problem, they may have sent you the wrong item. T

well we had a christmas party for our neighborhood at our house and I didn't get back on it this afternoon. I'm going to try the other magneto rotor. Maybe tomorrow night. I should still get a little glow from the headlight right? I'm kinda doing this on my own. The wife isn't too keen of the hours I've been spending on the garage as of late.
