No spark, could it be the magneto? Different Flywheel?

I put everything back in yesterday on my motor. My old magneto coil was good but then when I pulled the flywheel I ran the bolt in too far and into the coil. I bought a used supposedly working coil and flywheel. The flywheel doesn't have the "Rotor" part of it, but matches what's in the service manual. I used my original flywheel and the "new" coil. Now it's all back together and there's no spark. I went back over every connection. All good. TORS was fine before so I don't know why it'd be wrong now. Do I put the "new" flywheel on with this "new" coil or should I try my original coil and flywheel? I'm off to a christmas party now, so no chance to try anything right now till we get back. I'd love to hear opinions.

How,s your pickup coil damaged??
CDI good???
go back and try your original coil and flywheel
all your groungs good???
key and kill switch on???
contacts are clean on the stator???

I'll got the water pump and pulley off so now I just have to get the puller back in there to pop the flywheel. I'll try the original first.

I went back over my connections and even put a little di-electric grease on them. There really only is two grounds that I know of. Both up by the air box. One is at the cdi and the other is pretty close to it.

The first time I pulled the killswitch was off but then I remembered. I flicked both several times after they were on.

Is there something on the surface of the stator that I need to check/clean?
I'm not even getting a glow of the head light.

they don't really come in contact right? I thought it was generated by the magnetic field and rotation, blah blah blah....

Your right but sontimes they get rusted...just somthing else to look at..

I'll dig into it tomorrow. Wife's bday dinner tonight. The old one has two broken wires where the bolt cut into it. So I can try fixing that one. I looked at the "new" flywheel and it was rusty, so mine could be too.

I'd clean 'em..

I pulled my original flywheel and cleaned it and put it back on as well as cleaned the peaks on the new/used coil. Still no luck. I tried my soldering hand at the my original coil. Another holiday party this afternoon is cramping me going any further. I think I'll try the "new" combo together and then back to my original. I hate to spend $100 plus on another "new/used" coil. It was just luck I got both before. I might post a wanted ad. I noticed the 97+ coils have the pickup connection coming through the same wire bundle. I expect I'd be able to just not connect it right?

Also to be sure, I have one pair of wires on a connector by the water pump that don't connect to anything and then there is another pair to one connector that do not connect to anything up by the airbox. I know one of the latter ones comes off the rectifier and supplies a steady 12V.

and by pickup coil, you're talking about.....?

I checked out the peice that's screwed into the housing. Looks like it has some sort of sensor, kinda like a crank position sensor or soemtihng like that. I've cleaned it up and cleaned the connection.
