Clutching Help...again...:)

ok..i checked the cables by pulling each at the servo end with a pair of pliers...all the cables seem to have a spring tension to them so I guess none would be pulled thru then...right?

I also know that the mag side is flush (why i didnt check the other 2 when I had the pipes off I dont know) but I will be pulling the pipes again to ensure they are all flush when fully pulled back...

I sure hope one of them is REALLY out of line...otherwise im running out of things to look at here....

I'll keep you posted...

-Thanks

ok im going to spend an evening tearing thing apart to look for problems.
Here is my list, please let me know if I should look for anything else.
When I complete this list I will be forced to take the crank out and get it checked...140km/hr(85mph) is just not going to cut it and I dont think a shift-point of ~250 rpms low would make that much difference...right?

-Powervalves all installed correctly, no broken cables, and adjusted flush when open by the 'feel' method
-take apart carbs to check that the jets are stock
-check for a binding track or some other rolling resistance (break stuck)

Thanks!!!

I would check:

1.) start up the sled and observe if the water temp light blinks 3 times then goes off. Turn down the idle to below 900 rpm and mark servo housing and pully with black marker.

2.)the servo cover off and the sled up on a suitable jackstand, if you dont own one you can build one from 2x4 wood easily, rev the sled up over 7000rpm and observe if the servo is opening the valves or just wiggling the wheel and not opening the valves and aligning up the marker mark on servo pulley to housing you made in step 1, 98-99 srx have common cdi signal to servo problems with the cdi box's

3.) correct jetting for the sled, are the spark plugs nice and light tan when you remove them after riding it?

4.) with the sled up on the stand, does the track spin back and forth by grasping it? Does grasping the secondary clutch allow you to easily trun the clutch to the left and right or is it very stiff to turn?

WOOOOT! I got it!
I'm quite happy to inform everyone what the problem is!
(embarassed...but happy)

Turns out the problem was just a combination of loose plug caps and the old spark plugs!
After changing out both the plugs and caps The sled now revs up to 8600 and keeps climbing. (54/44 helix, grn spring @70, ysy primary, 8dn-20s w 2.4g inner and 0.8g outer)

So...I need to adjust the clutching...yet again to adjust for this additional power.

Off the line it jumps to 8100 and climbs to 8600 @ 160km/hr. (couldnt go faster..ran out of room)

I need to get it back down to 8300 top end so what should I put in the outer rivet hole instead of the 0.8?...Id guess a 2.7g?

Thanks again for everyones help!

Yes try the 2.7. In mine with 8Dn-20's I put .85 inner and 2.7 outer.Launches at 8100 and climbs to 8500 really strong.Still waiting for the 15.6 rollers to go with the 8DN-20 weights. That will get my launch rpm's up a tad.

well i did try but i didnt be able to fix it cause the first angle is too big if u fix top end rpm it will be to low on start went the sled will shift ...well try it give me news about it i still got that helix

Just got back from a great ride with 2.4g inner and 2.7g outer....it runs great!
...almost there...

After launch it jumps to ~8100 and at about 170km/hr it kind of stopped pulling and I think the rpms were at about 8400.

Thats too high...right?

Should I try 3.6g in the outter holes instead of the 2.7s? or...would that be too much?

Opinions?

(by the way..this sled is a ROCKET...I love the smooth power!)

For drag racing your clutching is dead nutz on. You can try playing with secondary wrap +- 10 degrees to see if it improves but only do this against a timer or racing another sled on the same day without him changing anything on his. Kinda funny & off topic; we used to mess with a bud doing it that way. We use to lose/win intentionally to really mess up his set ups. Had him scratching his head.

hehe...that would sure make it hard to tune...you guys are mean!..funny tho!!!

Great, thanks for the help again!
So I shouldnt be concerned that i hit ~8400RPM (98 srx) at ~175km/hr...thats not too high...ie...i couldn't get it a little lower to get those last few MPH..or will it be determental to the low-end at this point?

Thanks.
