Does adjusting the FRA have the same effect as adjusting the preload on the spring? From what I know the lower position is the stiffest so would this be the same as increasing spring preload?

yea pretty much it works a little difernt tho. i think it has to do with the angle that the shock moves
the fra adjusts the speed and distance the shock travels. in the soft setting it makes the shock act as if it is valved softer and makes the spring act like it has less rising rate.
this is where most people destroy the ride of the sled. they use this setting to adjust the ride height or worse the ride. in almost all cases you can not adjust the fra without messing up your ride height and rod gaps. for each setting on the fra there is a proper preload on the spring that should be changed. this is a pain to do so most dont bother.
if your sled needs more ride height, adjust the spring(remove it, it is faster) if you feel you need more or less shock valving, adjust the fra.
these settings are very weight sensitive and should be done with you on the sled and a full tank.
an example of why using the fra to adjust the ride height: take a sled that is set on the soft setting, rider is a light weight, 150lbs, sleds ride height is low for what ever reason, maybe someone thought less spring preasure made it ride softer. to get the sled to sit up where the gaps are correct he adjusts the fra to the stiff position. this does lift the sled up some, now he has a sled with the correct ride height and a shock setting that is going to beat him to death.
that is all for now, look for a setup article later.

Scott, in a post i had read of yours you had said that you had the FRA in the fast setting??...what i would like to know by what you said in this post is there a optimum setting the FRA should be in? what is your preference? i have purchased the video on setting up the suspension and they talk about damping with the FRA adjustment but do not go into details like some of your posts.....any reply appreciated...CP
