Tuning for pipes

I took my first trial run after installing PI end dumps on my 00MM700. I did a 1/4 throttlel run, 1/2 throttle run, and a full throttle run, checking the plugs each time. Going by a tuning guideline on Hartmans website the 1/4 and 1/2 throttle runs the plugs were a nice brown but there was no oil on the threads as opposed the full throttle run where there was oil on the first couple of threads. This is one of the things Hartman said to look for that when set up properly I should see oil on the first couple of threads on all runs. According to this I wonder if I'm running a little lean and I should lower the clips to raise the needle thereby richening the mixture at the lower speeds. Also keep in mind that I ran this at about 500 ft elevation and most of my riding will be in the 1500-3000 ft range.
 
I had to raise my needles on my sx with end dumps. I also ran 50 pilots. Maxdlx
 
Thats exactly what I ran. It was a little fat, but safe. I raised the needles but can't remember for sure to what. I am thinking 4 or 4.5 Maxdlx
 
Safe...?

I'm going to be running 140/141.3/140 mains and 47.5 pilots on my center dumps....You guys think that is safe.....Is that diferent on the end dumps...Mine is a 600 tought....thanks
 
Nicko that should be plenty safe for the 600 with Centre dumps.

I'm running 141.3, 138.8, 138.8 mains
4th position on the needles, and 45 pilot jets.
Not sure how i'm running yet but I can imagine it should be close. And this is with End dumps in Ontario.
 
I pulled the carbs last night and found that I have 145's all the way across, 45 pilot and the needle is in the 2 position. Being I was lean on the low end I was thinking of going to a 50 pilot but do you think that bumping my needles from a 2 to a 4 or 4.5 is too big of a jump? I've got a tempa flow on it if that makes any difference. By the way what cylinder needs the bigger jet? The manual lists the carbs as 1, 2, and 3, is that pto side to opposite?
 
yes #1 cylinder is pto side #3 is mag side.

I would watch your mains as 145 seems too lean to me, actually it all seems too lean to me, but I just picked these pipes up a couple of weeks ago.

I'm running 45 pilots and needle in position 4 on my 600. I would definetly start by changing your needles. This is where you will burn down your sled in most cases as you spend most of your time at 1/2 throttle.
 
I'm bought some 147.5 jets tonight as I know I'm on the lean side, I also wanted to get 50 pilots but the shop was out and will have to order them. I'm wondering if I can get by with the 45's and just raise the needle? Or should I do both?
