Heys guys
The sled i bought for the kids is too fast and i need to slow it down. I want to hear your thoughts on how to make it slower. Also it has to be an easy fix because if i let a grown up ride it i want to be able to switch it back fast.
Thanks guys ;)!

Not shure if there's going to be an easy fix,but yea somthing around
the handle grip maybe.

i can't see any thing to adj. on the carb end?????

I changed the throttle pull on my stepsons GS300 for his 1st year with it. Allowed him to squeeze the thumb all the way and was really only getting 1/2 throttle.
How about gearing it down?

I'd say the half throttle thing to...or if you can somehow add an extension to the throttle cable...Good to hear your making a consious effort to slow things down for
the little ones...let them graduate to goin faster down the road...it gives them somthing to look forward to..

Put a spacer in throttle cable on the carb end, take a bushing whatever length you want to restrict him to cut a slit in it the long way, slide it over the bare cable end and wrap a little black tape around to to keep from coming off. Then when a buddy rides it your a little tape away from full throttle.

That sounds like it would work the best. Not sure if gearing it down would really be the best thing to do. Then it's just gonna give it more low end grunt.

montynormand how did you change the throttle pull on your stepsons GS300? and Kinger i like your idea.
Thanks Guys Keep them coming ;)!

I will be having the same problem when I finish figuring out my son's ET 250 that I put a 32mm mikuni on. Still trying to adjust the choke and throttle cable.

AWESOME IDEA will do this when the time comes for my kids. The best thing about this is the fact they won"t know it is there.

Did the small block of wood under the throttle on my sons 340 when he started riding at 7 yrs old 14 yrs ago. Worked great. Formed it to fit under the throttle, small wood screw thru a clearance hole on the throttle lever . Easy to take the block out for adult use, easy to put block back in!!

As he got more drive time, shaved the block down so speed would increase accordingly. Worked great for the 2-3 seasons he rode before he stepped up to a beat up detuned Phaser!!

The throttle pull is easy to adjust on the old butterfly carbs. if you have a round slide carb on it you are limited to the set screw on top of the slide.
If these are a round slide kehin or mikuni, another option would be to purchase a new cable for a larger carb. Lets say you have a 30mm carb, if you use a cable for a 36-38mm, you'll have more cable pull length than needed. Aftermarket cables are under $15 and would looke better than a block tapped under the thumb lever

When I was younger I never knew how my dad restricted it for us...I thought the same about the wood block...kids are smart...your right, they'll figure it out..but jiggin with a carb will have em confused...thats how he did it for us...
Hell when we were kids riding the old bogies...we could only drive around the house solo..but if we wanted to venture further..we needed a riding buddy...not only for safety..but 4 hands to pull on the pull start...or digging out....hehehehe

When my son was riding his quad that I set the throttle stop on he would sneak a screw driver and pliers with him and adjust himself once he got far enough away that I could not see what he was doing. One day he was peaking around the corner when I was making a adjustment. I never under-estimate the power of a young mind.
