my wifes xt 600 is creeping forward when sitting at an idle. i am thinking that there are bushings in the secondary clutch and maybe they are wore out or maybe a bushing or bearing in the stabilizer bar from the motor to the frame or all of her drive belts shrunk? lol...... any ideas or suggestions? thanks!

how do i go about that?

Somtimes people need more info;

there's three small bolts on the back side of the secondary, remove
these bolts and there's small washers that need to come out, there
may be more than one washer,if there is try just one if not enough
then take two.

you want your belt on that sled to ride just below the edge of the
secondary.

is it a new belt????

yes it is a new belt and it is sitting real high on the secondary. i do have the manual but haven't had the gumption to open it yet. thanks alot , now i know where to look.i will let you know the out come!

The idle speed is not going to have much effect on this. Take out the washers and your creep should go away. Same goes for a squeel at idle.

Warm Idle should be 1500 though.

my idle is around 12 or1300 i will double check that! i usually take pretty good care of our sleds , mechanically , just this kind of had me a little confused and i really needed help with where to start looking i had a few ideas but you guys helped pinpoint it and i appreciate that! i just got back from the dentist and turned the heater on in the garage so i should be able to get out there in a little bit.
thanks again

Anytime,,,post back with any other Q's if ya have 'em... :letitsnow :2strokes:

i pulled the secondary on both of our xt's and the one that was creeping is definitely closer, so i pulled the washers out and put it back together. seems to be better! also the sled was idoling aroud 3000 i got that back down to 1300 or so. tommorrow i plan on taking them out to the fields again and running them a bit before the warm weather hits on sat. and we lose our snow.

So how many washers did you have in there on each bolt??

I had the same problem with a new belt. I just cleaned it with water and emery cloth and took it out for a 50 mile rip. No more problem. New belts have a coating on them that has to be cleaned off or you get a squeel and creep at idle.

now the belt is sitting JUST below the sheave right were it is supposed to only about a 32nd or less. i put it up on the stand and ran it a little bit to make sure it was seated properly. tommorrow will tell all. we have never had a problem with this sled before so i'm kind of wondering what has caused this? as long as she's ready to go dec. 20th we are heading north to the in-laws house for christmas this year. price county, wis.

Nothing caused it..when you put a new belt on that will happen to any sled
make shure you don't loose the shims(washers)you'll need them to put
back in when the belt starts to wear again...

well, i took the sled out yesterday afternoon....it was better but not 100% seemed to still want to move a little bit. i think we will just have to get some serios miles put on it, then reevaluate the situation! thanks for everyones help!

Are you SURE you got the right belt on????

had that happen on our dlx put the right belt on
and had to add back one shim,it was too loose...
