sled creeping

Here I thought the belt has to ride a tad higher then the sheaves.Put an extra washer at all 3 places.Noticed today the the sled creeps ahead and belt squeels.New belt to,so I guess I will remove some washers.

more info

another page to read.Says to set the cord line of the belt level with top of sheaves.Read section 5.

When I changed from my stock 8DN belt from last year to an Utimax 3 belt this year, belt seemed to ride low in secondary a tad. I put an extra shim in all 3 bolts to raise the belt. Sled will actually move ahead on the snow at idle. And the squeel is there when you ride and then stop for a bit. Guess I'll remove the shims I put in.I checked the length of the belt against the old one and is fine.Seems the Utimax 3 belt is slightly narrower then the Yamaha belt brand new.I will do runs with the sled using both belts to see what the rpm's are doing and compare.Having the belt to high will probably give you a good holeshot but suffer at top rpm's.If the belt is in the right position the track should move slightly when up on the stand or with a slight push on the track with your hand.I am getting my clutching to where I finally want it and is important to get this belt deflection dead on.

i tried a couple of belts on this thing one was an older belt and the newer one creeps still i reaaly think we just need to get her up north and run her good for a few miles! :letitsnow hey DAMAN are you heading up for the first muni ride this year?

Was it the dealer on Dugald road by chance?

:brr That's the one, I don't tend to deal with them to much anymore, had a few bad experiences, which is too bad since my family has dealt with them for 25+ years.

I have always used stock Yamaha belts with no problems but this year (last week) I ordered a Ulitimax3 belt from Royal Dis. Hard to beat the price! I will have to watch for the deflection and ride hieght in the secondary. :letitsnow

Once again lots of good info from the members...excellent site. :rocks:

Yeah they have gotten to big, maybe don't have that personnal touch with the customer anymore.Care about selling the big ticket sled to you,but maybe as as much when it comes down to small things. My sled originally comes from there, but bought it from a co-worker.He originally had the wrong belt installed. He told me later he went there and asked for a new one,and this is what they gave him.It was a little to small of course, off by 1 number for the belt part...still man get it right from the start.I deal with the guys on Pembina Hwy.(Wildwood)and deal with only one young guy there.Had good luck and they are a smaller dealer and I don't feel intimidated when I walk in there.Got some good advice from the owner on various topics on my sled. But I also buy from Royal Dist. and parts from TY members on this site.Examples from here is Temp-a-Flow,adj. control rods, blue gauge pod, rollers, weights, jetting,Helix, etc at a reduced price from what dealer charges.

Agree 100% with you Bluemonster1, I now deal with a local guy who has lots of good used parts for Yamaha, or Dubois Marine, or Royal Dis.

according to kempke's they have 7-10" right now but the first ride isn't until jan. 10th or 11th , something like that, should be plenty by then!

Blkmax600.let me know how the Ultimax 3 works for you.Where is your belt riding approx in the secondary. I'll have to remove a set of washers from the secondary to get my belt to stop squeeling and sled to stop creeping.
