Ok, the ol’ war horse – ’99 SX 600 triple – now has 7,800+ hard ridden miles on it.
I am currently changing out the track and swapping the SX radius / tie rods for Viper rods to take advantage of the Viper long travel shocks that were stuffed in last year.
Since I have it that far apart already I was thinking I would re-ring it also. The compression is 115/118/118 (PTO / mid / mag). I did the head gasket mod with a new custom thickness Cometic gasket, airbox mod and silencer mod. Should this sled be re-ringed or will I not get much bang for the buck out of it? It still runs good except for a puzzling stumble now and again at steady state idle. It back fired really hard twice so I am wondering if I might have bent the crank which is causing the idle issue. It doesn’t vibrate or shake at mid to high rpm so the stumble is somewhat of a mystery to me.

If it aint broke dont fix it. I would just ride it until it starts to give you some grief.

I agree, I don't know the difference between the 700 and 600, but I have a buddy that drove a 700 like his throttle was a light switch for over 12000 miles and thing still runs like a top.
If you have 7800 miles put piston's and rings in.

Most definitely re-ring!!! and check the specs on your pistons too for wear.

I would do the pistons and rings.
My srx has 10 k on her and the pistons were worn below specs.
New pistons and rings are a must for me.
