ok so today i was doing test runs with my 98 srx 700. i let it warm up for 2 minutes all is good i ride about 2 kilometers but then theres a straight away so i say wow lets see how she works this season. so i get to 120kph and i see my temp light flashing on and off so i ease off the gas and it goes away,so il pull over check it out and i notice my carb heater is closed so i opened it and tryed that stretch again and got to 150kph and no light went on and wow my machine seemed even more of a beast! keep in mind its almost -20 degrees here with the wind chill.and was riding hard packed snow. so was maybe having the heaters off doing something to my machine? well tell me what ya think

first off only letting it warm up for 2 mins before riding it is a certain recipe for cold seized cylinders and pistons, especially at the temps your in!!!!!

secondly, the carb heaters have nothing to do with the temp light blinking, you have a problem somewhere and the diagnostic blinks a sequence thru the light, you have to know how many blinks are coming from light in order to tell you what the problem is.

hmmm thanks but its so weird that once i turned the carb heater on it went away..well il see if it does it again because after the blinking it went away...my hand heaters arent working could this maybe be the problem? on of them broke in half last year

so im thinking that maybe my broken handgrips have something to do with it..should i disconnect them and then test it out again?

ok so i checked it out ..weird...the light would now only flash over 130kph.. it would blink 3 times and would keep blinking if i would go any faster and when i would go back under 130kph it would stop flashing?????? is it maybe a wire rubbing or something...everything runs find and the sled pulls hard..weird... maybe its my broken handwarmers i have no idea

are you sure its only 3 flashes? there is a sequence of flashes then a slight pause and it repeats itself. It doesnt matter where the throttle is, it matters what the code is at the time of the problem, meaning it may only happen at wide open, then hold it wide open in a field or whatever where you have the room to watch the blinks and then let us know. Be sure on the flash sequence and we can get you the correct route to fix the problem.

This is just a shot in the dark here but you may try bleeding the air out of the coolant system.Mine flashed at a certain speed once after I did a piston/jug replacement and it turned out I didn't get it purged of air properly.

ok guys il try it next weekend with whatever snow is left..but its hard to maintain high speed and check the sequence of the flashing...but i was thinking i brought my machine for a tune up and he re adjusted the powervalves so maybe he touched something..il give gim a call and see what he thinks

well i havent tryed running it yet on a stand but i checked my coolant level and its on low...so might this have made my light go on?

but the thing that gets me is why would it only doing it while going over 125-130 kilometers per hour..then when i backed down on the throttle it would go away.. il top her up with prestone and see

ok boys well heres the verdict ..let her warm up 5 minutes before i did my test. made it all the way to 160kph with no flashing light or anything..this is too weird..since my handwarmers are like half ripped off can i maybe just be having a short.

If there's one thing I've learned from working on electrical components never overlook the obvious. If your grip warmers are in that bad a shape then it could very well be just that simple a solution.

ok test run number 2

i let the machine warm up..its nto really cold here. she went to about 160kph and started flashing again in sequences of 7 flashes in a row then would stop for a couple seconds then 7 more until i would let off the gas
