just bought some Rox treads to strengthen my bent running boards
( want to straighten and reinforce them )
what about putting something (like a metal rod?) in the roll on the outside of the board?
didn't Bender or somebody offer this?
What do you guys think?

you can go to a hardware stor or a fleet farm and get some round stock and put it in the rolled edge as you mentioned.

I have used spring steel rods from the trunk lid torsion springs of an early 70's full size GM car, aluminum rods, and Bender's which are high strength steel tubes. The Bender tubes are the stiffest and probably weigh no more than aluminum rods. Reasonably priced also. I do not know if they still have them.

You may also find the same size and strength stock at a steel supplier. I cannot measure them now because they have been installed. It may have been 1/16 wall.

Straighten your running boards before you install them by putting a wood block that is a couple of inches taller than the running board under the low point of the edge and standing on the rear bumper. Apply grease when installing for easier insertion and to prevent rust.

Problem with putting in rods is you have to rivot the treads to the rolled edge of the board. I'd wait the Roxies will stiffin the boards up real nice like. After you put them in I really don't think your going need any more stiffening. Well on the sled at least.
