Safe Mode?

I recently bought an 02 V-Max 600. I've been riding it a little in my field around my house but there's only so much you can do in 10 acres. Anyway, the sled was occasionally going into a safe mode. I ran it out of gas the other day and threw in a few gallons of 91 octane and it seemed to be better. Until today. I took it up to my camp today and did a few 2 or 3 mile high speed runs with it down the trail. A couple times I would let off the throttle from an 80MPH rip and it would go into the safe mode again. It seems to do this quite often. Not just after long runs but even putting through a turn. Another thing that seems odd is my stock silencer is getting extremely hot. I thought maybe a nest in it but the sled runs great when its not in the safe mode. It actually feels faster than my 700. There does not seem to be any exhaust restriction. I also have a 700 and a 500 and niether of those get anywhere near as hot. Plus one more thing is the sled is running at 9100rpm when I nail it. As far as I know this sled is all stock. Helix is definately stock.

I bought this sled off a dealer and I'm going to see if they will take a look at it but it was about two months ago. This was the first week we have had snow this year so I never had a chance to run it until now. I don't know if the dealer will stand behind it or not so I'm asking for some advice here just in case they don't. Thanks,

Vince

what do you mean "safe mode"?

sounds to me like its your TORS.
What I mean is it goes...blah...blah...blah...and doesn't move. Yes, I think it is the TORS myself but it going into that blah...blah...blah...mode after a fine running 80 mph rip doesn't make sense. Sometimes it does it, some times it doesn't. I've tryed adjusting the throttle cable to the not to loose, not to tight position and it still does it.

I had the same symptoms on my 2000 SRX. Bypassed TORS and all is good. The carb switch was working intermittently. $37 for a new one.
My throttle has never stuck so I am not worried. I think I can hit the kill switch or jump off the damn thing. Gotta love having full coverage insurance. :)

8AB weights 51/43 helix green spring wrapped at 70. may need to play with different size rivets in the weights to get the RPM dialed in. Heard this set up works awesome.

there is a way to by-pass the TORS. just ask around on here. its just the matter of plugging and unplugging a few wires

The TORS cables are located by where the throttle cable is mounted to the carbs. There are 2 wires coming off the switch, individual wires, unplug the wires and plug the ones back together that are on the wiring harnes side. It's worth a try, I've heard of this switch failing more than once.
