I'm thinking about buying a 2000 Triton Elite V Nose 12 Foot open Snowmobile trailer with salt shield to haul 3 sleds. The sleds are a 2001 Vmax 600 Deluxe, Viper ER and Viper-S. According to the seller the axle has a load rating of 2,500 pounds and the tires are "E" rated to handle the extra weight of the third sled. MY questions are:
1.) Will I have to load the middle sled backwards to make it fit?
2.) Will I have to remove the middle sleds windshield if it's loaded backwards?
3.) I have a 1/2 ton 2003 Silverado so how well will this trailer handle with one sled backwards if that is the only way to make it work?

I am thinking one sled would have to be backwards and windsheild should be ok. As far as trailer axles I would not worry. Just maintain proper air pressure and keep bearings greased. I also feel the truck would handle three sleds with no issues. I have pulled 3 sleds with my wifes little 2006 4 door Dodge Dakota with a 3.7 V6 with no problems. It's a Dodge so I knew their would not be any issues. Will they let you test fit sleds before you buy? I say if they fit go for it.

depending on the trailer weight, your three sleds will take up most of the load capacity on a 2500lbs axle (approx 1800 lbs wet, full loaded. no snow/ice in tracks). so you will be pushing the mfg axle limits. if you look at it this way, if you have a 2500 pound load on a 2500lb axle, is it as safe as a 2500 lbs load on say a 3500 - 5000 pound axle set up?

as far as 12' holding three sleds, i have a 14 foot enclosed trailer and with two forward, one backward i can barely fit 3 long track sleds in, its tight to say the least and a pain to load all three. the 12 footer will be tight. you will need to put two in front as far as you can, and tip the rear ends out to the sides as far as you can, then slide the last sled in backward. the skis may hang off the edge a bit.

i happen to have 2 axles and brakes on my trailer as well. my 02 seirra is similar to your chevy truck so, the truck will be ok. just when hauling 3 sleds, make sure to use the tow haul feature and haul only in drive not o.d. ski

my guess is that trailer is a 2 place not a three place - i believe the 3 place are 14 foot and they have 3,000 lb axles. you load your front two sleds facing forward and the back on sideways.

I've got a 14' open tandem axel, two long tracks and a smaller sled is not a problem. I've had three 144" long tracks on but the center sled hangs over the rear some

I load the front sleds as far forward as possible then spread the backs as far out as possible, the third I drive streight on between the two. The 8'4" width of the trailer helps a bunch.

I feel a 12' trailer is small for three sleds.

Thanks for the advice guys, I was thinkingthe same thing. Too small and would be pushing the axle weight limit . I called the guy this morning to let him know I'm not interested in it.

I have seen guys (& have done it myself) pull the front 2 slelds as far foward as possiable and put the 3rd sled on the across the back. thats the way my 121 viper rode up north 3-4 times seems to work well

Judging from your avitar you could get at least one or may two more on there if you put your mind to it.

We have put 5 sleds on a four place trailer on a few occasions. The sled in the rear center is backwards and we ALWAYS make sure to put a cover on that sled for sure. I have heard of people getting a brand new sled, putting it in the pickup backwards and losing the hood blocks away from the dealership. XC

I have a 14' enclosed with dual axles. I load three 136" machines in there with room to spare. I drive them all in from the front to the back. I can even fit a kitty cat in there with all our riding gear, extra gas, dog sled, and containers with enough clothes and food for a weekend. My buddy had a 12' enclosed single axle and runs three short tracks in there. Its kinda tight.

I have a v-nose 2 place open trailer with a shield - we load the 1st sled on sideways tight to the shield and then the other 2 normal - that way if anything does hang over a bit it is just the track - if they are all short tracks they should fit without much problem.

My sled bed is designed to put a sled across the back sideways. It exceeds the width limit, but never had problems with police.

Although we just put a sheild on it and turned it into a 2 place, no way getting 3 on it with that.
