How To Clean Clutches

not talking about the clutch face but all the belt dust in the little places you cant get to. somehome told me to dip then in a tool cleaner solution. but i thought that would be hard on the bushings. how about a pressure washer. tried brake cleaner but didnt work to well.
 
You wanna know a awesome way to clean them? it will get you in big trouble if the wife is home, take off the primary cover/ spring and place it in the dishwasher and run the cycle with hot water and extra detergent!!! I am not admitting to posting this information if you get in trouble with the wife.....LOL!!!!
 
I am trying this tonight! I am installing a set of heel clickers after it is all shiny. Ever heard of using toilet bowl cleaner as a parts cleaner? It also works well. Any thoughts on how this might be a bad thing for the clutch?
 
mrviper that is dangerous advice you are giving....good idea but very dangerous.
I am going to ask my wife tonight if I can do this....I will clean the clutches from her machine as well and see if that gets me any closer to putting the clutches in the dishwasher

How about putting toilet bowl cleaner in the dishwasher?

toilet bowl cleaner in the dish washer.....man your food must be crapy.
 
Call me crazy, but I went with a brand new can of clutch cleaner. Worked like a champ. $6.95 and no yelling from the wife. Although, things are quiet round here, maybe I'll put the shop rags in with the whites....she'll love that.

Yes great idea but I'm buying the new dishwasher and I will have to installed it to stop the #$%&* So I think I will stick with the scoth brite pad.... :bling:
 
ive done the brake cleaner and carb cleaner stuff just didnt get them as clean as i wanted, the dishwasher idea is a great way to get all the tough to get spots. i am going to do it no matter what the outcome with the wife, anybody got a spare couch for a while.
 
Best thing I ever did was hang onto the old dishwasher when we bought a new one. The old one now sits in my garage as a parts cleaner. I mix a little parts washer in with the water and use the heat cycle. Works great everytime and I can do other work on my sled while my "parts washer" is running.
If you happen to be at a garage sale and they have an old dish washer that works you can pick up a "parts washer" for yourself pretty cheap!!!

U guys r amazing... i use the dishwasher to wash hats all the time...use the oven to dry out my baseballs... things like that! Im deff trying this out when i get home!

MrViper700.You said you put your clutch in the Dishwasher.First remove cover and spring.But you actually put the entire clutch in there.What soap did u use.Do you put it regular cycle ,pots and pan cycle,or bacterial cycle.And you use heat dry also.The cover goes in to,won't harm the bushing?I am changing rollers in clutch now and clutch is dirty and needs cleaning.
 
LOL i think im going to try this little idea of the dishwasher, lol see what kinda reactions i can get around the house. should be interesting anyways, and i'll have a clean clutch in the end

I think the reason he said you have to pull the cover and spring is so that the jets hit the spider and clean it up real good, otherwise it wont get direct water pressure sprayed at it with the cover on. I really dont think it matters what level you put it on, just throw it on regular or pots and pans, whatever, it wont make a difference. You dont have to heat dry it, you can just use compressed air. It ain't going to harm the bushings either, it doesn't get THAT hot.
