I've run em both, the aluminum seem to be a little more durable.

Ditto to what Helix said,I ran the saber brand nylon backers years ago and got rid of them after loosing a bunch and when I took them out I could'nt believe how many more were right on the verge of failing.Besides from that I've run most other brands with aluminum backers including saber and there all fairly good, no clear standouts to me and they got the job done.

What brand of nylocs were you using?
Third on the square alum backers, they are a little heavier but I have not had a problem.

I've had square nylon backers in mine for 4 years and 4500 miles and not one tear out or break.

good to know so square is better, I always thought the corners caused them to rip easyier.

The fast trac air lite backers aren't too bad (they aren't nylock with the threads built into them, they are just like aluminum backers but are a polymer). They actually held up awesome in my buddies srx over the course of 6,000 miles, i dont think there were any broken. Much lighter than the aluminum. For my own though, i used aluminum just because i know it is proven.

cool, thanks for the info, i think im gona run the 1.375 wide woodys round support plates aluminum ones.
I did run the fast track plain 1" round for 1800miles and had no problems.

I've had very good luck with the round aluminum backers. I always found the square ones to cut the track at the corners.

well I ended up getting plastic fast trac airlites, as they where free with my order, my buddys had them in his srx for 2years , no problems. and the price was write $1.29can each washers, studs and nuts

I have nylon backers on my 170 HP Polaris 800 with no breaks after 4 seasons. You need to buy the thicker ones for larger studs. The thin ones do not hold up. I bough Fast-trac..The good thing about plastic backers is that they will most likely break before the stud tears through the track. A 50 cent backer is better than a track with a huge hole in it. .... Jeff Wurl
