I have a 1998 600 twin vmax sx I am soon going to install reed spacers and boyesen dual stage reeds,Other than this the sled is stock. It says in the instructions I may have to change my main jet size, Smaller by 1-3 sizes How do i know if i have to or not and do i run the risk of blowieg the engine if i dont get the jetting right. Is this a good mod to get me started?
Thanks mike

I don't know much about those reeds but with others like VF, you don't have to change. And since they say to go to a smaller jet, it won't hurt staying with what you have. If it runs better with a smaller jet (like they say) all that will happen is that your engine will run a bit rich with your bigger jets.
If the engine is stock, I would save the money and stay with the Yami reeds.
The reed spacers is OK, but you can do the same with the "reed notch" and it won't cost you anything.
Another easy mod is the head gasket change.

Personally i have never had much luck with different reeds on a stock engine. I would save your money and put it into clutching and suspension work. Thinner headgasket also makes a big difference on that engine.
