carb heaters?

i bought a o1 mm700 and while looking over the motor i noticed what i first thought was a fuel shut-off wasnt. the coolant lines run through it what is this for?What should it be set to?

Carb heaters,,shouldn't need them on unless it's really really cold out..

I use them when it's real cold out and when im playing in lots of powder, as snow can hit the mufflers and steam up and then freeze again on the carbs..... I don't know of any Yamaha Snowmobiles that use fuel shut offs now you mention it....

I always have them off. Until it is really cold .
