A couple questions. What are the purpose of the 2 tension straps in the suspension. When the sled is sitting on the ground( not jacked up) how tight or loose should they be? Would this have anything to do with fast slider wear if the straps are too tight? I am having a problem with the sliders wearing down quickly. I don't think my track is too tight. Any suggestions? I have a 1998 vmax 700 xtc

Do a search for hifax wear and remedies. There is alot of great material to read. I had a 98 vmax 600 that ate up hifaxes untill I loosen the track and added a wheel kit. It is all in the setup.

dont really need to change anything. just get some 5.38 wheels from richierich
Rich motorsports and you will be good. Set track to proper tension.

PM richierich for some wheels

If you are wearing at the nose, first check track tention if it its good you need to tighten the front limiter and set some preload on the front shock.

If you are getting wear in the middle then tighten the track

You could pull them up a little(shorten the straps) and loosen your track
more,or like tom said get some marginal snow wheels for up front on the rail.

new slides will wear fast then stop when they get to a certain point.

Adjusting these straps effects weight transfer on or off the skis.

letting the straps out takes off weight, shorting them puts weight on,

The straps are a tuning aid for your sled as they affect how far your skidframe can drop down in the front. With a longer strap you get more traction and less ski pressure and when shortening the strap the steering gets better as you carry more weight on the front of the sled. Its kind of a preference thing and needs to be experimented with, but generally you want the track from front to back to come down on the ground together, this is generally a good starting point.

I am wearing them out I would say at the front where the runner begins to bend upwrds. How do you tighten and what the hell is the front limiter? As you can tellI am pretty new to this repair stuff but I am kearning. Diceman

Yes I do partner!!!!

New slides WILL wear fast then stop,,but you should still check adjustments
to be shure.

most the time loosening the track alittle and or pulling up the limit straps
some will help, or putting the marginal wheels on..

I thought someone said earlier that those straps would have nothing to do with slider wear???
Shortening the front strap by tightening the eyebolts up front will pull the front of the suspension up and take pressure off the bend. So will loosening the track. Take your hand and push the track down at that bend--you will see how tight it is at that point. Friction = hyfax wear.
