2-94 v-max 600s and 2-different secondarys?With pics
I am starting to go through and check everything I can on my 2 sleds for the season. I bought 2 v-max 600s last year end of the season. I only rode them once. So before this year I am going through them. Cleaning carbs, chance oil in chain case, grease, ect.
Anyways I got one sled done and I got to the other and noticed as I was checking belt height sitting in the secondary clutch that they are not the same secondary? The sled that my wife rides looks like it is a stock secondary. If looking at it from the side you can not see the spring or helix. It just has the bolt to hold it on. The other sled (mine) has a roller secondary clutch. All the spring, helix and all is open and you can see it looking from the side.
The reason for concern is that when I looked at the belt and how low it sits in the secondary I noticed that it is actually sitting above the edge of the secondary. In the service manual it shows that you can shim it to get it to sit deeper in the secondary but not sure if it will help? The sled seems to run fine and takes off great.
Also I am not sure how to take the secondary off this sled. On the end where the bolt is there is a round collar that is a anodized aluminum piece that fits over the bolt and I can not get a wrench on the bolt that holds the clutch on. It has a screw on the collar that runs down the side and I can take that off and the outer collar piece will twist off but there is still a piece that covers the bolt? I may have to try and get pics of this. Last time I had a sled the roller secondarys where just coming out. Thanks Steve

Heres some pics. Both the same year sleds.
This is the secondary on my sled with the roller set up.
This is the secondary on the other sled.
This is the collar piece that I was talking about. I can not get a wrench on the bolt as the collar covers it?
The collar is two pieces. I can take a small bolt out the side of the collar and it will twist off but still leaves a piece around the bolt that holds the clutch on? Any ideas what the clutch is off of and how do I get this thing off???? Thanks Steve

Hmmm.....not shure never messed with one.
Looks like an Arctic Cat clutch. I'm not sure I understand the problem with taking it off though, it looks like a socket will fit in there no problem.
The purple thing you are talking about is a Maximum performance belt deflector quick adjuster. The ring you took off threads in and out moving the sheave up or down the helix to get the proper belt height. This can be done without taking the clutch off the sled. I don't think you have a Cat clutch but a form of Benders or Pioneer performance Roller Rooster clutch. Witch modifys the stock Yammi clutch to mount the helix upside down. The roolers allow for a much steeper helix angle due to the reduction in friction which in turn allows for your sled to upshift much quicker. Hope this has helped you out

So what you are saying is that the hieght of the belt can be adjusted with the outside collar that twists on? I will have to check it out tommorow. Thanks Steve

Yours is a Arctic Cat clutch with someones belt adjuster. Hers is stock. Use a thin wall socket to get to the bolt...but why do you want to get it off?

I wanted to get the clutch because I was unaware that the purple piece on the end adjusts the height of the belt as it sits in the two sheaves. But it is not needed now. But good to know for later. Also how do you know its a artic cat is there a distinguishing part of it to tell the difference?

The only numbers on a Cat driven will be under the windage plates. It look like a cast helix, so the part number should start with 0648-XXX.
