Please. Can anyone help me get past this problem. A friends 700 hesitates real bad at 3000 rpm's. Once past the 3000 rpm mark it runs good, but as soon as it gets to the 3000 rpm's range again it bogs. You have to let it come down to idle and start over again feathering the throttle. Occaisionally it will backfire. The carbs are all clean and set to spec. The only problem we had during cleaning was the pin that holds the float in the middle carb was really tight to put back in place. It did not seem to affect the float movement. We know it is not clutching because it does it before the clutches engage. Compression is 125 on all three cylinders. Electrical is good and fresh gas too. When you initially start it, it will rev up perfectly for a couple of times before it starts to hesitate, like a float bowl is not filling fast enough. Any ideas as to what to check next??? :o| :o|

yes I would agree throttle over-ride....there are two wires that go to the carb rack which connectes to a switch, that is the tors switch. Unplug these wires at the harness and plug them in together and try it again.

Sounds like the pilots might be off a little. I think lean but I have to hear it or experience it. My 99 600 deluxe would backfire when cold because of the lean pilots when warm it would not do it. If the pilots are lean flip the choke when it bogs if it takes off that's the problem.

Make sure that you don't have two gremlins fighting you like a stuck choke, bad plugs or plug caps and or clutching that is messing with you.

TORS usually doesn't get better with higher rpm right? My experience is that tors will not allow any rpm greater then about clutch engagement rpm. If its the TORS it will really sound and run like crap.

I agree but wanted him to rule it out.

Thanks Gents. I will rule out the TORS today. As for the pilot jet, using the choke does not cure the problem. It just stalls it out. It is only at 3000 rpms it starts to act up. Once past this you can run W.O.T. and it runs good. You can bring the rpms up to 3000. and down to 3000. but at 3000 once you try to throttle up, it just bogs, hesitates and occaisionally the od backfire. My dealer is trying to sell me on it being the stator. I think i need to change dealers. :o|

I replaced the stator on my 700SX at around 5500 miles. I know the 700SX units were kinda known for this failure but mine would not hardly run at all and would backfire on random cyclinders when trying to use the throttle.

Out on the trail I would foul a plug then next time it would run fine......it finally did not make it home. When I brought the trailer to my sled it fired right up and ran good.................

I wouldn't rule out the stator, thats why it's back fireing sparks then don't

how's plugs look???

check grounds and wiring???

how many miles on the ol girl??

there are ohm measurements you can take on the stator wires, coil wires, and spark plug caps. your dealer (or someone on here) should work with you and give you these numbers.

Usually the stator acts up when hot and it acts just like Tod said. I have the service manual and can check/post the ohm readings tonight.

check your reeds..you might have a bad one on one cage

Wow. There is about 5400 km on the sled. It went to bed fine but it all started after the carb cleaning this year. Like i mentioned before, the middle carb we had a problem removing the pin holding the float in place. Way to tight. Hard to pull through the float. It went back in way to tight but we could flick the float and it would function. I am wondering if it could be affecting its performance being either slow to fill the bowl or not shutting off causing flooding. I tend to lean towards the starvation side. Electrically it seems to be fine. I took a good shot from the plug boot due to it leaking out. Replaced all boots new. Great spark. I have a 97 sx 700 and it runs awesome. Both were summerized by myself. :o|

lots of great info and ideas posted so far. Dont get discouraged and dont try 10 things at once. Process of elimination will get you there
