Getting sled ready for snow

Hey guys this will be my first winter with my new 1992 Phazer II.
I was wondering what sort of things should be done before my first ride.

I am going to clean the carbs my self. Is there any tips for doing this?
Is there anything else I should do before I get riding? I will also check belt and plugs.

grease all steering and skid parts.
Clean inspect and change chain case.
Check air box and exhaust for nests and blockages.
Check track tension and alignment
 
Welcome.
Check your hifax, dump the old gas, run sled with new gas for 15 min and change plugs. Do a search on (clean carbs) or goto the tec section, there is a ton of info for you. Check your rear shock and skid to make sure all is in good working order.

cooling fan,throttle end play then oil pump adj.....

The suspension front and rear is all brand new for this year.
I just want to make sure my clutch and carbs are good to go.
I found the link to the carb cleaning. I was just wondering if there was anything model specific to my phazer that I need to know.

Very simple project. Remove the air box and then the carbs. Once the air box is out of your way everything is right there.

I wouldnt mess with the air pilot screws. Just remove the bulls and the jets and spray it all out. Pick up a couple nice new shinny plugs and make sure you have good gas. It will be fine!

One of the most common overhals for a 2 stroke air cooled is NEW PLUGS! Just keep a new set along for the ride at all times.

Enjoy the ride you will have alot of fun on it!
 
To remove the airbox, take off the secondary pulley. That needs to be done anyway to grease the jackshaft.
Follow the maintenance chart in the owners manual.
 
Carbs are cleaned.

I couldn't figure out how to take off the air box. But I was able to get them off anyway. Man that was a challenge. I didn't know about the secondary but I will look into that this morning.

All theses tips are a great help.

Every Used T.S.S. sled I've bought the Knuckles and steel bushing are almost frozen or completely locked up and pivoting on the bolts ! I've bought sleds that the locked up joints won't even allow the springs to return let, alone the struts to work when hitting a bump. The T.S.S sleds have always gotten a bad rap for slop developing when the ungreased steel bushing's freeze up they grind away on the nylon washers ! I have sleds that are 15+ years old that have never had a bushing kit and are almost as tight as new. Just take the knuckles apart every 2-3 years and the ski mount every year and grease !
 
Get that coverered

Ok I have replaced most of the bushings on the front suspension. I put new shocks in front and in the back.
A couple of the bolts wouldn't come out so I will wait untill next year and replace those.
I had it running and was going pretty good. I still need to take the secondary off and grease it up.

If the sled is good enough to keep, I would invest into a shop manual...
 
You might want to change the oil it the chain case if it has not been done within the last two - Three years. That oil can get really nasty in there! But there is so little snow that you could wait tell next year. Also this my be what you are talking about by greasing the jack shaft and I might be to dim figure it out. but when you have the secondary clutch off grease the bearing right there. much easier then having it go bad on you.

Hey guys thanks for the help, I do have a manaul but its the chilton one. I am keeping my eyes on ebay for a factory one.

I am pulling of the secondary clutch today to grease.

I also have another question. I have taken the sled out for a few rides this week and a couple of times this week it has fouled the fan side plug. I have put new plugs both times and it did the same thing. I have taked the carbs off and given them a good cleaning before I tried to ride the machine.
The sled also has stalled on my a few times. I will be riding to a stop sign and sometimes it will just stall or it will bog and if I flip the choke half on it will rev out again and I kick the choke off and away I go again.
Any ideas guys?

If it has old gas in it, it could cause both problems. Top off the tank with fresh 93 octane (old gas loses it's octane level - not what is causing your problems, but it could cause others).
