Well...i'm glad to say say that running those 8dn-20 weights really improved the sled..its a diffrent animal threw and threw...corner to corner backshift was great..the only problem I had was a pesky kitty..my buddies 04 f7 was running real well..he owns his own perf. shop. But heres how the race went down. off the line the f7 was getting its @$$ chewed by the viper and was about two lengths behind...all the way until i seen 109 on my dreamometer and he went by me pulling pretty hard but stopped about 1-1/2 sled lengths ahead and we let off...now to my understand an f7 with the y-pipe,clutching,can(killing power)some cdi box I believe..and the air vents...AND he out weighs me by about 40 pounds SHOULD be behind on top end... i'm assuming since i'm running 8dn-20's 3.1 inner 2.4 outter and a 51/45 helix green secondary..that my problem is the helix finish angle is too steep..and isn't allowing the belt down far enough for good top end..other than that the ride was awsome..alittle icy and only one fender bender but nothing serious!

pick up a RX-1 helix or 51/43 helix!! may evn need to drop some rivet weight but it will be much better.

I'd get that helix and go test. yamaha green sec. spring set at 70 as well

really now...to go from a 51/45 to a 51/43 will really make that much diffrence??hmm..i'll definetly have to try tomseal..the ride was awsome until the end...when I THOUGHT i had that f7...haha test and test and i'll get er!

or alot of viper owners are using 53/43

But really i think 45 is too steep of a finish angle.

Mark your primary real good with a felt black marker all the way up and down on the inner sheave to view the shift out. Belt should eat the mark you made up to about 1/4 below the edge of the sheave.

I have the 53/43 helix with a green spring at a 70 wrap and it works for my viper. A great trail sled with some extra snap.

viper7mi,

what weights are you running? I think even viperking runs that 53/43 helix.

Im from saint saint ignace mi and will be in munising on the 10th. U in Da UP somewhere if I remember?

Hi tom
I'm using just the 53/43 with the green at a 70 wrap no rivets.
I will be up in the UP of MI the week after.

eric is this the first ride with your new rings?
yeah its the first real ride with the rings...i've done some playing around on the lakes thats about it..I always thought the vipers/srx's should take the f7's on top..I talked ot him today and he said I pulled him hard out of the hole and mid range was close..but after 1000ft or 100mph he went right by me..I mean the guy must weigh 40-50 lbs more than me..I was thinking of trying hte stock 47 helix and maybe that would help..or i have 50/43..I dont think I would notice much diffrence on the first initial angle coming from a 51/45 but the 43 shuold help me on top end..i may have to remove some weight from the 8dn's after trying the 51/43 but we'll see..I noticed mr.viper said that if your going to use heavier weights to use a shallower helix..and i have a 47/41 but I think that may be way to low..

look like the 53/43 will be a best choice but a 51/43 is pretty common and will work ok just saying on the note of you not having to spend $80+ on a new one. Yes your viper should take him on top.

I wouldnt race him till you get that helix cause you lose again your gonna be dogged hard. The 51/43 is a stock RX-1 helix and will look stock on your sled!!!

I rode his firecat today..it didn't seem to backshift very well..he said he needs to tighten the secondary up two holes so he should have better bottom end but his top may suffer alittle..your saying not to race him til i get the 51/43 or with the 50/43 that he let me borrow?he also has a 54/44 that may be better than the 50/43..either way hes going to let me try some out..he doesn't have the 53/43 or a 51/43..which sucks..but i'll see what i can do anyway..i just couldn't believe that firecat pulling me by a good 3 mph when he went by me.

i'll try that helix tomorrow with the green secondary at 60-70..not sure if that will be enough for that steep of a helix but i'll try that and i'll also mark my primary clutch with a black marker

id keep it at 70

you would only want it at 60 with the stock helix. 60 with that helix and you might have an over shift. remove weight from the heel of the weight if under revving slighlty out of the hole.

Try that 50/43, that will be closer than that 51/45, and will give you better top end. You want 8400 out of the hole, and add or subtract weight from the tip until you get 8600-8700 on top end at WFO on a long pull.

edit: wait a minute, is this a piped viper?

yes the sled has slp's..running 8dn-20's hacuk orange primary spring/green sec., and going to try that 50-43 and a 54-44 tomorrow...dont know if i'll have a sled to run against but i'm going to try them out and see how they back shift..see if i get anymore top end etc...but the 50/43 may be the first choice..If i remember the piped vipers like to run 8,800-8,900
