292 Reed motor will not idle

OK, here is my setup, 292 yamaha reed motor, 38mm roundslide mikuni, yamaha gyt pipe. Problem, will not idle, runs very rich, has lately been 4 cycling. I have done numerous pilot jet swaps resulting in no change. I have changed crank seals, checked timing, etc.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think there is too much carb on there. It may run better with a 34mm Roundslide. With carbuerators bigger is not always better. Monty Normand would be the one to answer this.
 
Carb size should not be an issue, original setup is a 42mm x 38mm Keihin butterfly, so the overall bore of this mikuni is smaller.
 
Where did you get the carb from? Is it off a bike?

If so - then it has about a 3.5 inlet needle and seat designed for gravity feed fuel.

You would need to change that to a 1.4 or so to work with a pump.
 
found out today that the carb I was running is a 36mm, bored out to near 38mm. Tried another carb today, 38mm, bored to 39.5mm. Both carbs are off of sleds, but still no headway made.
I will retime the engine again tonight according to old dealer specs, rather than book specs, engine has been kicking back severely and nearly taking my arm with it.

excellent...
my season opener got cancelled today....bummer rained lastnight and really messed up the track.
Good news is that in Testing yesterday, I found 6mph on top end with my SR292!!!
 
Too bad, there's no races in my area until the end of january, so I still have a month of testing to go. I found there's a world of difference with the mikuni vs the keihin on my other sled. I am running the reed engine in a 74 Sno Jet SST, which is a hell of a lot lighter than my GP also.
