This is a totally restored 79 exciter that i intended on giving my son.Its been carefully repainted and rebuilt from the ground up.It has zero miles on a fresh rebuild and has been assembled with stainless steel hardware where ever possible. The paint on this sled is amazing...very deep and glossy. Now that its done its almost too nice to hand over to my 13 year son and im thinking of selling it and getting him a newer 380-440 fan. This would be a great sled to a collector...what do you think i could get for it?

These are not a big money getter. A sled like this needs a buyer that is looking to add a piece to a collection. Location also can make a difference in value.

great looking sled

I owned one of these and they a great sled.Think I used to get mine up to 93 mph back in them days.Good all around sled back then.

I do have all the original decals right down to the factoy warning stickers for this sled.Im having them scanned and reproduced by a local shop. This is what it will look like when all the decals are on.

Nice looking sled. I couldn't even guess on a price but I would bet that you'd never get what it's worth to you.

nice sled! you are better off keeping it for yourself. it isnt rare or anything a collector might consider special. but it is a fickle thing, if you find someone that is hot for those paticular sleds then the skiy is the limit lol!!

Took some better pics in the daylight today.

Looks some nice I gotta say. You will never get what you should. I would guess between $800.00 and $1200.00.

I had 76 and 79 Exciters. 76 was faster but 79 got better MPG. Try 76 heads on the 79 if you find a set cheap(little more compression). I put a LOT of miles on both of mine and the only problem I had was bending the frame on them when jumping. My cousin had a brand new Johnson JX650 that he thought was pretty fast and my 48 hp 440 Exciter SMOKED him, BAD! These sleds could fly for a 440 fan.

I bent the frame so bad on the 76 once it put the steering stop into my drive clutch and shattered it. That made a helluva racket and mess. The precalibrated Comet 102C clutch I put it on it was awesome. Put one on my 79 too and it was WAY better then stock. They were by far the most dependable sleds I ever owned.

It'd be a shame to hand it over to a 13 year old and every year that goes by like everything else there will be less of them especially in that condition ! If you need to sell it to buy the boy a newer sled you'll probably not get a decent price But, If you're willing to sit on it eventually the right buyer will find it !

If we dont see a change in the weather i wont have to worry about finding my son a sled this year.I agree with you,i'll store the exciter in the corner of my garage until i get a decent offer on it.Someone, somewhere is looking for a sled like this.
