My son has a 99 Vmax 600ER Triple and he wants to remove the electric start.
We purchased the correct smoothing capacitor (condensor) and I have ordered an adapter plug as shown on the Yamaha microfiche. Can someone with this model (non-electric start, 600 triple, single headlight) tell me where the capacitor is mounted. I'm guessing by the adapter plug and the microfiche it's somewhere around the CDI. I know some of the capacitors mount up by the headlight but it doesn't appear to be the case on this model.
If you could post a picture that would be great......I'd owe you a
!!
Thanks
Ken

check behind the plastic above the foot well. there's a rectifier voltage regulator back there. also up under by the head light is the condenser. the condenser is a round tube and the rectifier and voltage regulator are little squares.

The condensor (smoothing capacitor) is what I'm referring to. They are not present on the electric start models and we need to add one. It doesn't appear that it would mount up by the headlight on this model.
Thanks,
Ken

That's where I've normally seen them too but there aren't any unused plugs around the headlight. That's the first place that I looked.
Maybe there is a additional wiring harness that I will need to add?
Can you tell me where they plug into on your sleds, is there a separate harness?
Thanks again!

id say to flow the harness from ur head light down and see if u can find a plug anyware along the way. if its not there id imagin ud have to get a new harness that has it.

yup mine is up around the headlight to.
chek the fiche but I doubt they'd have 2 different harness' seeing as how E-start is an option you can add.

If you look at the fiche the stardard electric start has a different hood harness than a non electric start. I bet you just leave the condensor coil in if you put electric start on it. J

I checked the harnesses for the 1999 Vmax 600ER vs. a 1999 600 SX and they were the same.
I guess I'm going to have to locate someone who has one and do a side by side comparrison.
It's okay to leave the condensor in when you add electric start but the electric start models don't have the condensor. So when you remove the electric start you have to add one and that's what we are in the process of doing.

The headlight harness is different 8CH-84359-10-00 vs 8CH-84359-00-00 that's what I just looked at. Where is the hood harness in the fiche? That where the condensor was in 1998. It should be 1 R and 1 B plug.

Send me an email and I'll scan the wire harness diagram in. J

My error on the fiche, I looked up the short harnesses that go to the gauges from the hood harness. I went back and looked again and you are right on the money with your part numbers. The harness is listed under the headlight.
I sent you my email address.........THANKS!!
