I've read many posts on this subject and about to rebuild leaking water pump shortly...

On Ronnies micro fiche, there is what's called a ("washer, seal") #9 on the diagram.... It appears to go beneath the bolt that holds on the impeller to the pump shaft....

What exactly is this "washer, seal" sealing?.... Doesn't look like it could be doing anything other than providing washer for shaft/impeller bolt....

I've read that this washer is crucial to a leak free repair so I just would like clarification to it's real purpose... can't see it sealing anything from anything.....

thanks

I'm still not clear what it's sealing function is... If this washer seal is bad, I understand that coolant leaks are probable.... how does this washer/seal function?

from fiche, the only explanation I can see is the shaft is hollow right to the crankcase... but I know this can't be...

thanks

How much is it leaking?

How much is your water pump leaking? Just wondering since most of the triples leak a bit when the engine and pump is cold. Mine has leaked and I would say about 5ml or so until sled is warmed up, then it totally stops. Been like this since new, dealer said it was normal to come out of weeping hole when cold.

getting worse all the time... at the point where I need to take coolant along with me... one drop each 2 seconds... leaks warm and cold... never noticed it leaking before this season..... thanks.
