He is a new discovery for all of those who want the advantage of a ripsaw with out the cost of changing drivers, gears, and chains in thier proaction sleds. We just setup a 99 SRX 700 with a 136 ripsaw. I decided to check out some different studding options. I came across some Woody's megabites in a 1.175 length I had kicking around. We through a couple in and realized that we had almost a full .25" penetration. This should be plenty sufficient for trail riding. I'll try to post some pics soon.
Maddog, If I remember correctly, you've done several ripsaw studded tracks without changing to 8 tooth drivers. What length stud did you use and have you had any issues(damage)?
Yes, you are correct. I have done and seen several srx's and vipers with 1.325 woody's with out issue. The last one we did was a Viper S which is the only one that had any stud to heat exchanger contact. It was on the front most exchanger under the belly. There where a few scratch lines in the ribs, but nothing to worry about. The rider of that sled weighs over 240 lbs with out gear and rides as hard as anyone I know. However I have had so many PM's and reply posts that were negative(mostley by members who have absoloutly no expierence with this issue or who have never even tried it themselves but think they know all) I no longer suggest or even reply to threads reguarding this issue. That being said, I figured I'd let people know that the Woody's 1.175's work with pretty decent penetration. I only use Woody's studs because not all studs are measured the same.

Maddog,
I just studded my 1.25" ripsaw on my 97 sx and I did change my drivers etc. I now have plenty of front exchanger clearance. However I'm concerned with the clearance from the track lug tips to the tunnel protectors. (I actually have a thread in the sx/sxr forum on this subject) I only have about 1/2" of clearance and am concerned that the track will rub excessively especially during braking and at high track speed. Do you know, or know anybody, that has studded a ripsaw on a sx chassis and what their track to tunnel protector clearance was/is??? I am trying to avoid getting out riding for the first time to find out that the track rubs! It seems to me that there should be more than 1/2" clearance.

It may rub a very slight amount in high speed runs. Under braking even if it did touch I do not think that you would ever notice it. Its not a big deal. No damage will occur to the track or the tunnel. It will actually wear some in this area and create its own clearance. No issues.

Thanks for the response. I quess I'll go with it, worst case I may shave down the tunnel strips at the track peak a little with a dremel if I need to.

Boy , oh boy,I wouldnt do that! those protectors are made that thick for a reason ...to keep the studs from ripping up your tunnel. If you shave em down your gonna have a big tearup problem! Just run it the way it is ..you should not have a problem!
Yammy is correct. By wear in this area I'm refering to the track.
what about if you have the rear exchanger on your viper?
any problems?
Thinking about putting in 96 down the middle with a close scratch pattern and then adding 2 strips of 1/8" alum. plate tightly over the front and back exchangers, for added protection....goofy idea??

snoway, what are you running for a track and do you have tunnel protectors on now?If your going to stud any size track, you need tunnel and exchange protectors. The problem with Yammi is there is not enough room to run 1 1/4" lug with 9 tooth drivers, the lug will hit the protectors.
If you are thinking of putting the strips where the studs will hit, they will simply rip the strips apart, BAD IDEA!
