Looking at maybe buying a 97 700SX and it doesnt have a motor...so can I put in a 2000+ SRX 700 motor?? Or do I have to put a 700 SX motor back in???
You will not get a srx motor in there without alot of work. Its would be more cost effective to stay with a sx motor.

Yes it will fir you can get some aftermarket pipes from hauck or there was guys running stock pipes with a dyoport silencer in mmax chasis which is the same as the sx.

The bulk head is different the rear heat exchanger is different the hood and belly pan is diffrent the wiring computers on and on are different just put a sx motor in it much easier than trying to convert. It to a srx
The side exchangers are different too. Same footprint larger inlets and higher flow capacity.

First of all what size is the sled a 600 or a 700?? What comes with the sled clutches chain case I guess what I am getting at if you have 600 clutching and gearing it would be cheaper to fix if you put a 600 in it or does it come with 700 stuff then look for a 700.

Sled originally came with a 700, comes with stock carbs, exhaust, air box. So I am thinking I need just a 700 motor. So you guys think the 2000's were the best so far??

The only major difference to my knowledge is the crank bearings on the '97's.'98 and up have different and stronger bearings, but I know many people who had excellent luck with the '97 versions, even with pipes.I do think the '00 and up are jetted and clutched a little different, but thats easy enough to change.My '01 has the 3d 300 watt igntion, I am not sure if this would present many issues when putting it into an older sled, maybe some others will chime in.

That would be a good one to get if the price is right and at that mileage its barely broke in.
