How well does the thin head gasket work on the 1998 600 twins? with reeds, reed spacers and this mod how many hps can i expect? 
a couple hp.It works great on the twins and a lot of bottom end response too it.With just reeds and the head gasket mod on my xtc 600 I was dead even with xtc 700's on the lake up to 100mph.

is your 600 a twin or a triple? Did you have to do any jetting when you installed the reeds?

I did mine on a twin and it really woke it up at all rpm ranges. No rejetting needed since you are not moving more air thru the motor just squeezing it a bit harder.

did you also install reeds? In the instructions for the reeds it says i may need to rejet

Nope stock yamaha reeds if they are in good shape are more than enough. The notch of the top stopper on the reed cage is all that is needed.
