GPS addition - what do I need for 12V

I have a hand held Lowrance ifinder and I want to be able to mount it and run power to it. In the cold weather I go through batteries and if I leave it in the pocket it won't receive the sat signal and won't give me a trail to follow.

I have a 98 600 SX and was wondering is there anyone that has added a 12V accesory plug (cigarette lighter) plug for either cell phone, gps or other accesory? What equipment do I need or can I tie in to other wires already there?

If you search West Marine for a stainless steel or a plastic type lighter type plug it comes with a rubber face seal to keep out water. It's made to flush mount.
Also the gps doesn't require any electricity so you can hook into any of the wires. But I would go to the battery direct. As you don't wan't the unit turning on and off every time you stop and go. I like to leave it on most of the ride and turn it off when I want.

It comes with an inline fuse.
 
I don't have a battery to connect to. What type of equipment do I need to sustain power to the GPS while riding and at idle? I would think that someone has hooked up something to work.

Do you have lights that come on? If so use those splice connectors to connect to one.. I used my tach light for my heated shield.

If no lights then I can't help but to say you should be able to find a positve and negative leads in the ignition lines...
