Hey guys,
Anyone install a edge skid give me some tips on how long I should plan for. I will have tonight and tomm till 3pm to get it done and I'm not sure if that is enough time. I had big plans to do it over a week over x-mas but dislocated my knee and its finally healing now.
I have all the mounting brackets so I don't need to remove my old ones (I bought new ones) I also have some alumn stock to make the rear brackets instead of using the stockers.
I have around 25 rivets
I have a template made that I bolted up the edge skid to make sure the spacing on the holes was correct while the skid is on the bench
I should be able to remove the pro action and side panels on my RX in 1-2 hrs
Use the template to mark the holes and measure a jillion times before drilling ~1hr
Then rivet in the new plates ~1hr
Next fab some brackets for the rear ~1hr
Bolt it in and set the deflection and adjust sit in ~1hr
So I'm looking at ~5-6hrs that seem right?
If so I'm going to try to do it otherwise we have 8" coming on MOnday and I'll ride the no action, we have been dry since early dec so I NEED to ride next week
Thanks!

Sounds right but then I would double the estimate for Mr Murphy.
Just the one line "next fab some brackets for the rear 1 hr" stands out to me.
Now given I know nothing about you or your skills but I think anytime I have to "fab" something it will take more time than I think 100% of the time.
My advice is that if your pressed for time ie before Monday then wait. One more ride on the pro action ain't gonna kill you plus you get one more chance to get some top of the line pain killers from the doc. Do the job when there is no pressure to finish and I guarantee that you will 1) enjoy doing it more and 2) do a better job. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'd say if you have already done a few skid conversions you should be fine, but if not I would wait and take your time. You really want to get it right the first time.

or the second time or the third time...
Ha ha thanks guys, I'm still debating gonna check the forecast...
I did the swap about a month ago and it wasn't to bad. I would just use the rear plates because you don't have to move them. We broke the rivit gun trying to pop the rivits or eles I think we could of had it in about 6 hours. Putting the new suspension in was a little bit of a struggle but once we took off the rear shock it went in like butter. We tried the ratchit straps and it just did not work. so we took off the rear shock, took off at the top and it went in with out a prob. the shock went on with out a prob also. I would say go for it. Remember to have fun
Ahh I backed out, shop was a disaster from my last project so I just cleaned it up a little bit and will focus on the install when I am not under the gun. I just want to ride for the first time this year so bad it could be a board under neath me and I wont care! haha
