communicator in helmet

Collett makes a special communicator or mic for the modulars. No experience with the modular but Platinum 900 works great in either my full face or my MX style helmet. Once you ride with them it is hard to ride without. Last week my wife left her battery plugged in on the car ride up so it went dead partway through our ride. I found my self talking to and warning her of oncoming sleds even though she couldn't hear me.

I've got a Collette (regular model) mounted to my black ski-doo modular and it works fine. The clip fits around the frame of the helmet and if you use the velcro to secure it the radio stays in place quite well.

The only real issues are the ear pockets are not as deep as the HJC's I have used it with. The mike tube is a bit of a pain but if you don't use the breath deflector it is easy to place in the right spot. I have not gone all the way and cut the "x" in the left side of the breath deflector so I can insert the mic thru the slot. I don't use the deflector much since it seems to fog my glasses real good.

We take extra batteries with us. The 1300mAh batteries that come with it are ok but I dropped in 2000mAh (I have some 2500mAh but not 6 of them) ones that get me several hours more talk/hear time.

What would be nice is a sled powered and mounted radio. Put a good antenna on it and stick it under the hood or in a tank bag or what ever. Then use bluetooth to transmit to a small earpiece and mic. Even if I need a small battery pack in my coat pocket I can put up with that.

It is pretty cool once you get used to the shared experiance.
