Yes you can run 87 octane but there is a greater chance for engine failure due to lower octane. I always ran premium with a touch of klotz octane booster just to be safe. Todays fuel quality sucks and isnt good for our two stroke sleds. Bottom line is run cheaper gas to help save some money and then hope it doesnt come and bite you in the *** later. My personal feeling and experience is too run premium grade when ever possible - higher octane resists detonation which leads to piston burndown.

I was told by my dealer that its recommended in the sx 700, as long as you don't have pipes or the head gasket mod.I know the srx requires premium though.

Higher octane has a lower combustion temperature, so if the engine doesn't require a higher octane the higher octane will build carbon in the combustion chamber.

If you look in a owners manual i bet it will say 88 or HIGHER...
i would use a higher grade than 87 maybe 89..

Funny my owners manual says 88 as well. I wonder where I can buy 88 octane?

just run regular unleaded, 87 octane from a gas station that sells a lot of gas so that you know its fresh and you will be fine.

Very true, dumping the fuel into the tanks causes sediments and water to get riled up into the fuel, and can get pumped out when you're pumping fuel in your sled.
