Blkhwkbob said:I'm pretty sure they quoted him $350 for just the track(part). He requested the 1 1/4 Ripsaw, not a stock track.
The prices should be on his work order.

Even $75 an hour for labor is rediculous!!! I know it's paying for more than just the mechanic, but come on..... the building, and heat and a sevice manager for a couple mechanics, what gives?
Fact is the mechanics make practically nothing, and that is bull$hit!!! The owners all wine that they aren't making any money, but they usually employ office help thats all family, and usually have thier heads up their A$$es!! After bitching about no money coming in.... all the family members that work at these small shops are driving new vehicles, and live in substantialy nicer homes than the mechanics. The owners usually own 1/2 million dolar homes on the lake, but can not afford to heath insure the mechanics?
If you can find a really small shop, the prices are usually better. I must say Daves polaris in houghton is the exception to the rule.
Do your own work, and screw the dealers on their rediculous prices for labor!!!

Ive dealt with Heckels before and never had a problem with them. $800 for a new track and new hyfax really isnt that bad.
Most shops get $80-$100 an hour. If you figure the track cost $300 and it took them 5 hours to change the hyfax and change the track, thats a fair price.

WAIT HERE PEOPLE
We don't exactly have all the details here.
Did he walk into the shop and ask for X track and they happened to have it in stock, and he asked them to put it on his sled right away so he can continue riding? Maybe they did a special rush job and pushed his sled to the front of the line bumping other people out of place.
I guess if someone came into my shop and asked for a rush job, I would also charge them more $$$ to get it doen quicker then the standard 7 day turnaround.

If he charged alot less than that he wouldn't stay in business. Have you guys ever worked in a retail service shop? Those of us who have realize that alot of people want you to work without making any profit. It costs a fortune to run a retail operation. I dont like many powersport dealers however.
