i was thinking on gearing my top sprocket down one tooth, how noticable will this make things, right now i am at stock gearing. also how much speed will i end up losing on top end?

thanks

you may loose a little top end, but you will get more power in the holeshot and midrange, it will make your sled stronger! but you may have to do some clutch adjustments to get the right rpms.

I geared down one last year. but had the center flange on the helix ground down 0.100". this is suppose to let the clutches shift out farther to make up for it on top end.
not sure if I lost much speed on top end due to the gear, because i also long traveled the suspension at the same time.

I went back to the taller gear this year to get more cruise at 80mph ( little less rpm) but the clutching is off now. actually too high rpm at top end.

so I will go back to what worked. this gear down, plus a WWW primary spring ($22 or so) plus some $1 4.5 gram rivits, and a takeoff 51/43 helix from an RX1 and I was kicking 800Rev Ho butts !!!!

after this ride this weekend withthe stock gear, I'm gowing back to this proven combo with my lower gear again.

on a 2000-2002 srx you will lose a little top end by dropping a tooth on the top gear but as others said you will gain holeshot and midrange IF you have good traction. If you dont have good traction it is pointless. You will also probably have to add weight to the primary to keep rpms in check. Personally i like to use the stock gearing on the '00-'02's

If your riding on snow you won't lose any top end if your riding on glare ice or hard packed crusty snow you may run out.gearing down to 22-38 you can reach 117mph on radar fully shifted out and over revving a little bit.

How does dropping a tooth loose top end It should gain on top end smaller top gear means less power more speed. Taller gear means more power less spead

you have it back wards
example 21-38 witll go fater on top end(MPH) than 20-38

but 21-38 will go slower than 21-37
if you want o go faster mph you either have to gearup on the top gear or go down on the lower gear.

Gotchya I was having a Senior moment. I am glad you corrected me I would have purchased the wrong top gear. I am looking to gain back 5MPH top end I have stock gearing now. What would be the best top/bottom gear set up to achieve this??? I have heavy weights in the primary clutch 20's I believe with stock Helix and Green secondary spring.

On your viper you would gain more mph going to a muti angle helix and reclutching that going up to a 23 tooth on your viper. If you arent shifting out fullu with the stock gearing your not going to gain anything by gearing up.With the stock exhaust you won't be able to achiev full shift out with the stock gearing maybe if your a oin a mile of glare ice where there no resistant's on the track.

All I know is I was getting 112 to 118 MPH on the Scream Meter last year under the same conditions with the same sled this year I added the heavier primary clutch weights , Green secondary spring, engine TQ limiter and put in the front 4 idler wheel spacers to extend Hyfax life and I am now only getting 105 to 110 MPH. What do you recomend I do to get that 5 or so MPH back????

put heel clickers in with a 48-34 microbelmont helix this is mr vipers set up it hauls but and you will gain alot more than 5 mph
