yeah, that sucks for G.B. I was wondering if you had ever had the top end apart (installed new rings) or if it really lasted 7,000 miles on OEM parts. If it did thats not bad. I have been told and read many times that the rings should be replaced every 3,000 miles, and mine is approaching the 3,000 mile mark. It still runs great and has good compression. Just wondering if I should be thinking about it before next year? -Ed

my father went around 13k miles on all oem original parts. never had the top end apart and it was JUST staring to lose a bit of compression. still ran great and got the same mileage. I think it depends on how you warm up the sleds and what kind of beating the machine takes. if you are easy on it, let it get GOOD and warm before giving it a lot of throttle, and just warm it up nice before even moving it you should get a lot of miles. my viper has 6500 or so miles and still runs fine and gets great mileage, wife has 7000+ miles on the sxr 600 and it runs fine etc. I am not worried and dont plan on doing rings untill I need to. snowtech had a tech short about it a while back. I agree with what they say.... if it stilll runs good, why bother??

52 miles and 4 miles from the truck rolled it on its side and flattened left side bar and broke air scoop and dashboard. first incident i've had on my 02 viper that cost me money.

Ed,
The motor has never been touched other than I had the PValves adjusted last year. I checked the compression this fall and all was good. I do not want to get this post off track. This will be my last coment on my sled in this post. I am sure I will start a new post about it after I tear the motor down next week. Thanks, G.B.

Miles this year
My 13 year old son has 380 miles on his 00 SXR 600, My 13 year old daughter has 360 miles on her 99 SX 600, The wife has 750 miles on her 01 SXR 700, and I have 820 miles on my 00 SRX 700. All miles were put on around the Mercer Wi. area so far this 07 season. 2 more trips this year planned 1 to Minocqua Wi. and then back to Mercer. No accidents or break downs the only thing was the wifes sled broke a Woody's double row carbide. Everybody ride safe and be careful We might be around the next corner you come to. Oh I forgot, 2500 miles on the truck and trailor to get to go ride.

Only 600 this year. Worst part is I was unemployed for most of January and still couldnt go riding. Good news is I took my unspent snowmobile money and bought an 07 Kawasaki KFX 700 (a four wheeler) that can be ridden for about 9 months out of the year.

Up to 400 miles now - they are promising snow this week - could be good maybe a few days off next week to ride if it happens.
