Thanks for looking at this- I have a 1997 VMAX XTC and was wondering if a Ice Ripper track would fit in the machine. Also since there are studs in the track itself would I need protectors?

Thanks!

A non studded 1.25 inch would fit but if you want to run the Ice ripper (pre studded) You will have to install tunel and front heat exchanger protectors, and switch from 9 tooth drivers to 8 tooth. Switching to 8 tooth drivers will throw off your gear ratio so you should re-gear it as well.
I installed a non studded ripsaw in my 98 XTC this season and love it...

You can just go with the ice claw 1" also. I ran that track last year and it works well. It won't have the hookup of a ice ripper, but you won't have to change drivers or anything. You may still want front heat exchanger protection, but you could probably get away without it. I ran mine without the front protectors for a couple years with the 1" ice claw.

Nice! ok that sounds a bit more of fit- I thought the ICD claw was more for utility sleds and was wider- but this is good feedback.
I thought the ICE Claw just came out?

Thanks again!

Ok last stupid question- why do you need to regear etc when cahnging some tracks? Because there is more resistance etc?

the ice ripper will work fine on your xtc - remove the tunnel protectors/heat exchanger protectors if there are any and keep an eye on your track tension and you will be fine.

Put one on my friends SXR - same tunnel, same suspension - no issues. (He has as about 2000 miles on the Ice Ripper with no issues.) And he likes the added traction too.
