I need some help on what belt to run on a 97 MM 700. I have read different books from Yamaha, one will tell me to run an 8CH and another will tell me to run the 8DN. Dealers tell me the same thing. I've been told by the dealers to run the 8DN in the mountains because it is more durable and will give a longer life because the 8CH is softer. If I run the 8DN, do I need to shim the secondary to run it higher, since the belt is a little longer than the 8CH? If I don't shim for the 8DN, will it have any significant effect on the final gear ratio? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the 8ch was the original belt for that sled ,If you run the 8dn you have to add a small rivet to the bottem hole in the flyweights to keep rpm the same

8dn belt was actually a dealer recall & free upgrade. I owned a 97 700mm. The recall gave you some heavier rivets; 3 belt deflection washers & a free 8dn belt.
