Last week went out for a ride.Cruising on the lake at WOT sled was running perfect.Turned around to back to my buddies cabin and the sled shut down.
HMMM Thot it was electrical so swapped out the cdi and it fired up.Drove back and just for kicks plugged in the old cdi and it worked.HMMM Checked the plugs all good.Added some gas line a/f just for piece of mind. The next day we put on about 100 miles and on they way back almost in the some spot the engine died again but this time made a heck of a noise
Pulled the plugs and the stator side plug was pinched down and had i nice sandblasted look.Pulled it back to the trailer and went home
Tore down just the top end and the piston did not burn down.Looks like a piece of metal got into the cylinder somehow and made a really big mess.Found a small (1/4 by1/4 inch by about 20 thou thick)piece a metal in a gallery leading down to the crankcase.
What else should I be looking for and replacing other than the head ,piston and cylinder?
My sled is a 97 700 sx

Yup split the case and have a look..
Well took the case apart and the crank bearings on the stator side were both had cage failures. Now I know where the metal debris came from.My guess is that a lack of lubrication would cause this. Any other ideas?
How in the world to you get the rod off the crank??
