Wow! What a difference installing a 1" camoplast predator inplace of the stock .75 yoko can make on my '97 XTC. Add that to the C&A Razor's I got from Rich and replacing all the worn bushings on the skid.

Deep powder was a real issue before and now the sled eats it up. I can carve corners so hard I lift a ski if I'm not careful. And the rough seldom groomed trails it soaks up the harsh stuff much better than before.

I even did a hill climb of an abandoned ski hill. 300+ foot elevation change over 700 feet. No problem.

Now I'm kicking my self for not doing this sooner. It makes a huge difference in the fun factor. Just do it.

Picture of the track I put in? It's an Artic Cat branded Camoplast 9830H "Quiet Track" It's clipped every third. I can't take a pic of it right now since I left the sled in Higgins Lake. I forgot to take a pic of it after I got it installed. I can't even locate the page I saved from the auction.

The track I removed? No but I can take one of it since it is in a box in my garage.

no i was just wondering what it(the new track you put in)looks like,
maybe i'd get one if you say it hooks good.

Ya It is just a 9830H. The 9837 is the same thing but all clipped. I did a google search of "9830H" for a picture of one. http://www.camoplast.com/powersports/tracks/predator.html

It hooks up great. I don't know if it is ripsaw or Hacksaw great but for trail/county road/ditch/hill climbing deep powder it was hooking up as good or better than I ever thought a non studded 1" track would. I only went 1" cause if I had to stud it would still be an option.

The new found control with the Razor's is amazing. I was expecting a bit better than the plastic Viper ski's on my Father's sled Boy was I in for a shock. Better than those by far. But they are sooooo much better than the stock steel ski's I had I was pleasently surprised how well they work. No darting. No Pushing in the corners. They cut when needed and don't require any more effort to turn than before.

Fuzz,
Where is that hill that you climbed, over towards Lewiston or Lake City by chance?
I ride out of Lake City most of the time, would be interested in finding that type of play area if you don't mind sharing the location?

Thanks,
Al

The hill is south of Spring Brook Golf Course near Walloon Lake. I have the GPS coor. if you want otherwise I have no idea what road it is on.

A friend of mine said it was either Challenge Mtn or Walloon Hills but I looked and Challenge Mtn is still open for people with special needs that like to ski. Plus the address/map location if off.

Do you gota pic of the track you out on?

I'm running the fully clipped version on my Viper and on my son's Vmax 600. They are excellent tracks.

Nope there is at least a 5 pound difference between what I took off and the 33 pound 9830H that I put in there.

It did not effect top speed from what I could tell. I still hit 90 on a good stretch of road. Visibility issues and the fact that it was 5 degrees kept me from really trying for top speed.

So the 9830 is a little heavier?

Well not compared to the new tracks but if you are comparing it to a '97 3/4" Yokohama track with 7800 miles on it then yes it is heavier. Funny thing is you can't tell it's heavier.

It is a bit harder to turn when the air temp is -13 when you startout in the AM. I needed more rev's to get it moving after engagement but that might also be a belt issue. And the original track may have done the same thing.

Now you should do the headgasket mod. and add reed spacers or the notch mod. Really helps throttle response.

This fall I did the above as well as cleaning the carbs, installed a 1 1/4 ripsaw and a total rebuild of the clutching. My gas mileage has greatly improved, I will fiqure out the exact mpg this weekend and post it.

Ya I did the gasket mod a few years ago (2000 miles ago) when I broke a ring and took out a cylinder.

Got the gasket mod (actually the .8mm gasket) and performance setup from Maxx Perf a few years ago. Came with thinner gasket, new progressive Helix, new fly weights... I have the stock weights back in there (new replacements with a bit more tip weight). I did the reed notch. Added built-in visor plug. Replaced all clutch rollers and the spring, did the secondary pads and spring. I replaced most of the trailing arm mount rivets. Did the trunk thumb tab kit. Blueprinted the carbs. Not much left to do.

Next up is the soft grips from the newer sleds and a GPS mount & power kit. After that I'm thinking about new Trailing & Radius arms.
