o2 Vmax - No Speedo

The speedo on my 02 Vmax 700 does not work. I was told to check the bearing on the drive shaft under where the speedo. How do I check this properly and is it hard to change? Do you need to drop the suspension?
 
Welcome!!!!!!

open the hood open your belt shroud take the belt off take the secondary
off and you'll see the cable going into a little gear box thing unscrew the
cable from the gear box then there just 4 simple bolts to remove then you
can take the cover off and see if the small piece of cable that drives the
speedo gear is sheared off,you;ll see what i mean when you open it up.

I'm having the same issue with my 97 Vmax, I just ordered a new Joint for it, and will be putting it in later this week. On mine, I don't know if its exactly the same on the 02's, but you can look here to see some pics, and graphics

You will need to check if they are the same, but mine, there is a speedo Assembly right under the Secondary, which with 4 bolts I can pull off and replace the part.
 
I was told that that small peice of cable breaks because the bearing under is warn. I am concerned about checking that and if it is hard to change!

You are either going to have to replace part #15 (most likely and very cheap place to start) #14, or the cable (part #13)

Shouldn't be a big problem.
 
Sorry Guys! I understand what you are saying about this the piece of the cable may be broken and that it is a easy fix but my concern is the bearing that is right there. I have been told that this little piece of cable will break because of a worn bearing. I wish to check and repair this is necessary. I don't want to replace the little cable and have it break agin next ride!
 
change out the bearing. remove the 3 nuts on the speedo housing and there will be 2 set screws accessible on the inside of the tunnel. just pry the bearing off and replace. what you heard is correct. the key inside the driveshaft breaking off is an indication the bearing is bad. you dont have to take anything else off besides the secondary.

I'm a newbie to sledding, so how do I loosen, or tighten a track, also is this bearing just generic, or do I need to order this part as well?

Order it, to loosen up your track you'll need a 19mm and 17mm to loosen
the axle(there will be cotter pin,don't need to remove it)then a 14mm deep
and stick threw the track window at the back there will be one on
each side,you'll see it..
