hi guys, im new here.
a few months ago i bought my first Yamaha snowmobile. its a 98 vmax sx 700. so far i am vary pleased with its preformance. i was doing alittle reserch the other day and found if i pipe my sled i could gain almost 25 hp, can anyone verify this? 25hp sounds like a lot, for such a simple mod. if i pipe my sled will the reliability be hurt? i currently have Bender roller rooster clutches on my sled and would like to stay with one company as i build my sled. does Bender make a quality set of pipes for my snowmobile? thank you.

:wel: I've read that you don't get the power they claim but that didn't stop me from ordering a set. Mine will be here Monday. And from what I've read on here reliability shouldn't be a problem with the right jetting. There's tons of info on here for those pipes and the jetting/clutching recommendations. I've just spent the last 2 days reading every post I could find on here about them.

I think thats a little high if you ask me but others will chime in for sure.
and :wel: , do seaches LOTS of info!!!! :)

Welcome man.

I'd agree that sounds high, and always remember that companies do a great job at marketing, and may advertise Crank HP, and not Hp to the track. They typically also will tune and test the engine in optimal environments. I wouldn't expect 25, but probably 15-20 ish, and yes it will depend largely on getting the right jetting.

you will probably see about 17HP.
You can also do the reed notch and head gasket mod for a few more ponies.
I have my SX piped and I love it, no reliability issues at all last year and my gas milegae is still better the Polaris and pre Rev skidoos

Welcome to the site. The sx engines are very reliable engine's and when piped with the proper jetting. They are probaly still safer than some other models with the stock exhaust. There is is certain companies that make more power than others.I piped sx is a whole new animal compared to stock it's like getting a new sled again. So many people ran pipes on here.So you can find out jetting and clutching specs for just about any pipes you buy.

thanks for the replys guys. i will take what you have said into consideration. i have been out of the snowmobile "loop" for along time. sitting on a Yamaha snowmobile i can truly feel the quality of the sled. as for this forum, i read alot of posts and you seem to respectable people. once again thank you for the advice.

I still think the pipes are the best hp mod per dollar. You have to becareful setting them up and be willing to live with the noise though.

What sx pipe set is the quietest?my guess is slp because they have the canister silencer, but I am not sure, whats the consensus?

i have been looking at Bender pipes, $750.00 bucks seems awful steep for a set of pipes. i recognize the Bender name from along time ago, so im thinking they build a quality product.

I have Bender and IMOP they are on the edge of being too load. I think the SLP would be pretty quiet because of that big canister also. Search a little my memory is that this discussion happened before. There are power inc, hauck, bender, slp, and maybe a couple of others. J

Here what a set of ceramic coated Bender triple pipes look like on a SXR600. Yours will be similar. The 600 HP gain is a bout 18 hp and the 700 about 20 HP. You will need to re-jet ans re-clutch to ensure you don't burn the engine down and harness the horsepower.

Welcome and have fun!!!

This is a post from a very trusted and knowledgeable guy one here... tuned tons of sleds and can guess a clutch set up for you with one sentence.

"I owned 4 piped 700,s & helped tune a lot of others. Here is my order of pipes I tried & my personnal rating of how I thought they performed.

1 Bender(Dynoport)/Power inc end dumps(tie)
2 Hauck/CPR
3 SLP
4 Power inc centre dumps
5 Aaens "

He's right... i had Aaens and got a set of Pi End Dumps... huge difference it actually surprised me. I just figured "pipes were pipes" i soon found out the difference when i put the End Dumps on, the power increase, even over the Aaens is very noticable, but they are very loud... luckily i got 1 of the few 3 into 1 quiet silencers made with the pipes.

Post on both 4 stroke and 2 stroke side for PI End Dumps or benders or whatever. I found my set on the 4 stroke side where people are no longer in need of their two stroke pipes.... They all have turbo's now, buggers. lol

it looks to me like you guys have your own brand preferences, what combination of pipes and can would give the most horsepower for my buck? while not harming realibility?

thank you.

The PI End Dumps are the best pipes for that machine but they are very hard to find since they do not exist anymore. Used Benders and Aaen are fairly easy to find and are easy to install and set up. Properly set up you will not harm reliability with the SX series sled.
