Any harm in running with broken powervalves?

This spring Im going to inspect my pvs for the first time (2700 miles) and was wondering if they are broken or dont work for any reason is there any harm done if I just run it? I almost never go full throttle so if it were just talking a small power loss then I wouldn't spend the cash. I am really good with maintenance otherwise so if bad pvs will harm my motor then I will do what it takes to keep things reliable. Its just hard to spend unnecessary cash when we have seasons like this and I now have 2 ATVs to support.

i dont think you would really harm anything that i know of, but it sure wont be a very powerful or fuel efficient engine once they all break or stick. If you stay on top of them they should last virtually forever.
 
No should'nt do anything, the PV's can't get to the pistons because
there's stops to prevent it from going that far,but....it's kinda silly to run it like that?? it's a easy thing to do pull'em out clean then re-adjust just,
do it man!!!!

or bring it over here and i'll do it fror FREE!!!!
 
Last season I had an issue where my power valves got put together wrong. By the time they found that was my power issue I am not sure what happened to the sled. My gas mileage dropped from 15-16 to 9-10. Not sure if the power valve issue had anything to do with it. But that was the only thing that has been found wrong with the sled to date. This issue started after the preseason prep last year (2005-2006 season) and still isn't fixed.

I would maintain them to spec.

That could definately be why your mileage went down that much. As i said you lose a TON of efficiency if they aren't operating correctly. That is why powervalves add power, its like getting the best of both worlds: a low exhaust port for low end torque and then a high exhaust port for top end horsepower. As mrviper always says, it's like having your cake and eating it too
 
Mine pulled the cables through and I think I rode it like that for 2 weekends before I realized it. One of the pv's jammed and got mushroomed into the cylinder and I had to take the cylinder off to get it out. I was pretty pissed :o| so I say just save yourself the aggravation and make sure they are workin properly.
 
Gas mileage will go down for sure... my valves all pulled through and i am barely getting 10 mpg... and barely 100 mph on speedo with a 2000 SRX... I just got new valves in tonight, i'll report back soon when i'm done having fun!
 
i remember reading a post here in the last couple of weeks were someone was running with there valves pulled through and one dropped into the piston.
 
Yea i read that

not sure what happen with that guy but there's stoppers in the casting
of the cyl. to prevent that from happening,,you think yamaha wouldn't have thought of that??.

if you look in side your cyl. you can see them, one on each side, i just
did my valves yesterday and i was trying to see if it would go all the way
threw and it would not..
