any body know what the max lug size i can get away with on a 99 700 vmax i need to replace my track and was thinking of trying a 1inch ice ripper but don't know about the clearance?

Welcome,

Well without any other mods a 1.25" will fit but not with studs. The 1" fits real nicely and there is plenty of room for the protectors all the way around. If you change the drivers a lot taller track fits in there but that is quite a bit more work.

Where and how do you ride? That will make the choice easier. There is a few guys here that have that track someone might chime in. You can also do a search on "ice ripper" to find earlier posts about it. By the way chucking the stock track worn out or not is a great idea. Stick with a Camoplast replacement recommended for your riding style and you should be quite happy.

well i know my two sons they put 1.50 tracks on there sleds one has a 97 vmax xtc 600 and the other has 97 v-max sx 700 no clearnce problems and i tell you what the 1.50 track is they way to go.

a 1.5 track will fit without tunnel and heat exchanger protectors and they do have a LOT of traction. But if you ride mostly groomed trails i HIGHLY advise against getting a 1.5 inch track, as you will be eating slides and lugs for lunch, and the track will not last very long due to excessive heat from not having enough loose snow for lubrication.

I have the 2000SX R and could not get a 1.18 track without removing the front heat exchanger protectors or cutting some of the track.

Thanks I appreciate the feedback, this sled is riden primarily by my daughter and wife in old forge and once in a while in quebec, I ride a 05 rs venture. I think ill wind up going with the 1inch ice ripper, should i use tunnel protectors?

Yes tunnel protectors are a must. You need to protect the aluminum from the balloon effect of the track. The Ice ripper can rip up the tunnel in a hurry. Consider it cheap insurance.

I ran a camo 1.188 cone style with 192 1.375 studds in my 97sx 700 without problems studs where close but had more clearence then i do now with 1.175s on my viper. I kept the track to yamahas specs though.

I would run the 1.188 with 1.175 studs or the 1"9830 with 1.075s, to be safe, i had no probs in th epowder with both these tracks.
