thesledsurgeon said:After a bushing thats pressed into my yamaha clutch shot out and did $400 damage I looked into alternatives..hatman hooked me up with a new p-85 clutch,a custom weight and spring set up, and a bushing to run a ultimax belt and awesome set up instructions.Wow what a difference the efficiency of this set up is huge.I took a closer look at my other yami cluches and found small fractures. THEY are Not all the same my buddy found this out the hard way! he put one on his vmax he purchased from ebay.needless to say he bent my p-85 puller.we tried heat and grease. it is on there forever..be careful!! Tom Hartman has alot of experience with these I'd pick his brain 1st.you can't beat his prices and knowledge..also the cup lite race cars w/ red head tripples run p-85 clutch's..
I had the same problem i just had to modify my puller to fit inside the yamaha crank, because the hole in the yammy crank was smaller than the polaris hole. Thought we were pulling against the crank but it wasn't. After a bent puller we realized this and modified a new one and it worked fine.

One way to adjust for the belt size is with the shims in the spider. On hartman's kits, there's a spacer that fits around the outside of the shaft that will press the clutch closed the correct amount (equal to the thickness of the spacer) when the clutch bolt is tightened, rather than messing with the spider shims. I dont' know if one way works better than the other. It sounds like there are many p-85's that will fit, but the p-85's that Hartman sells are from the storm and my guess is that they're more heavy duty and designed for higher rpm's. Can any polaris guys confirm this?

No they don't have to be from a storm. They have to have the 30mm taper. The domestic twins xcr and ultra used these. The xcr is the has a heavier spider and cover. This is the one I am using on my 1000. I took all the shims out from the spider and got the desired belt clearance not all will be the same. And yes they are easy to tune.
