I had triple pipes on my 02 viper and had 700-800 miles on it with em and it blew, center cyl, rod bearing. I got another viper and want to put them on and my jetting was way richer than it needed to be according to manufacturers spec, but my plugs were always perfect cardboard brown. JAWS pipes are the pipes and are a 9k rpm kinda deal. I've heard a lot of mixed feelings about pipes on vipers and I know to be safe just run factory exhaust. But I am so impressed with the sound effects and how it brings them to life. I just don't want another blow up, it's really hard on the check book! Any info or input would be awsome!

Raise the needles 1 space. that might be where you went wrong last time. Why lean out mid range? Maxdlx

I'll be converting my SLP Viper to a 01 SRX CDI in there near future, reason why TIMING. Viper box has 8-9 degrees higher timing @ 8000rpm than a SRX box and 5 degrees higher timing @ 8500rpm. Which will make your motor more reliable and POSSIBLY give ya the chance to run a leaner pilot. But this conversion only works on 02-03 Vipers, I'm not sure if a 02 SRX Box with DCS will work on a 04-06 Viper with DCS.

DID you run an opticool gasket, did you have the stock head. sucks she blew post mor einfo there is alot of knoledgable guys on here that would be able to help you out.
According to the manufacturer, your supposed to get another head gasket and take 1 waffer out and add to another head gasket to make it a 4 waffer gasket to lower the compression. This is very important according to JAWS. I didn't get this step done on the other motor but it 90% of the time had preimium fuel ran in it. Maybe I did raise the needle, I can't remember for sure without taking the carbs apart and looking at my total setup. It ran very hard at about 0 degrees F. I don't feel though that it was too hard or over its potential. I've been talking to a local yamaha dealer about the bender opticool head gasket but we don't really know the thickness of the 2 for sure. I don't quite understand how it really keeps it cooler either. Smaller holes for more resistance and to push the coolant more but the big slots in the factory one seem more logical. I know I'm no bender engineer but there is probably a reason why they use them. Maybe someone could shed some light on this also? Anyone ever heard of JAWS pipes? I've run into a few people that have, but not many. They fit beautiful and have a quieter sound to them but just enough noise on accel! Viperking, sorry I didn't get back to ya man, not trying to ignore you, don't know what the other guy that blew it up for me wants to do yet. He's in Georgia for the weak. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the input guys and I'll be looking for more. If any questions PLEASE ask! I want to figure the blow up out and these pipes out safely! THANKS AGAIN!

If you want to go fast - sel your viper and get an apex, you'll be ahead $ in the long run.

Funny thing is that today i was at my dealer to see if the ongoing story about my viper wether they going to repair it or not ? (it was stolen and recovered) And they had a 2003 viper with pipes, The owner has 9000 miles on is machine with pipes and had two rebuilds. He is fed up and is going back to stock .
I asked him if the pipes made a big difference and he said only after 80 mph. But since he was driving a piped viper from day one he said he was suprised that their wasnt a real big difference from stock. He also claim that he could barely get 90 miles from a full tank and that it was hard to jet when temps were up and down.

Yeah, mine is extremely hard on fuel now. JAWS says to run 152.5 mains and I believe stock pilots. I opened er up to what a speed shop gave me for specs. Why are they such a wimpy motor for pipes? Maybe a can would be a better choice? An apex would be awsome and it's getting to be about as cheap to go that route, but I can't let the old 2 stroke go quite yet, especially when I was beating the Warriors hands down! I no, it's no apex, but I was pumped!

I would keep the jaws and get an aftermkt head or run the srxheads and rail.
I was told that a viper with a mod motor has a better chance of not recking than a piped stock so I bought one on this site and have only rode it about 700 miles so far but it runs great not a problem and only uses about .5 moore than one of the stock vipers in the group and less than another but mine is not just a piped viper I been told that Mrviper700 knows how to set them up and I belive Allen Ulmer is also very good also

Piped viper reliability is only as good as the person setting it up. If you do not have the time and patience to go through and set it up properly you will often run into problems. I have setup Bender, Simons CPR, and SLP piped Vipers with zero problems.

Thank you for clearing that up. Plus you have the option to make her even more reliable and re-gain back some of your MPG, you just have cough up the cash.

Its all about the head set up!! Aftermarket heads with remachined domes is what makes them live and reliable, no matter if they are a 700 or 780. Theres also some mods to the pistons to allow them to run cooler and retain some oil on the skirts.

Don what would you do to (Stock Cut) Mega Viper trail domes to make them more reliable????

I agree with SRXspec. I've ridden about 2000 miles with mine and zero issues thus far. It's all in the set up by far. I just had mine set up by a race tech and it's running better then ever. I still get over 120 miles per tank, oil usage is very reasonable. I have the STOCK head, still no mod. It pulls way harder then stock!!! Better - out of the hole, awesome - mid range, great - up top...at 70 it pulls like crazy.
I learned that pipes on a viper are definately not a slap on and go thing. I do know and have seen an 02' Viper that has been trail ported, carbs bored, piped, clutched, reeded putting out 167Hp's (dynoed)and it's getting 115-130 miles per tank. It is no BS. It cost him about 2K to do, but it's a sweet runner.

The stock head has junk cooling features, thats the biggest problem with it. The aftermarket heads hold more water and will even out the coolant flow to all 3 cylinders, as the stock head starves the mag side cylinder from fresh coolant flow. This and the ability to change the way the dome and squishband set up provides the engine with greater reliability, better power output from cooler running temps is what makes the aftermarket heads excell.
On the mega power heads its all about having the correct squish angle ,radius, and piston work. This is what was done with addtional porting and piston mods to snoseekers viper, used to be Madmatts.

So what your sayin is the dome design from Mega dosent create the most reliable set-up but having the ability to hold more coolant and flow better kinda makes up for there dome design(But still not what it could be if remachined)???? Let me know if I'm way off base with this or not, I'm just trying to understand it a little bit more.
