Gearing down?

22/38 is the most common, it will make the sled quicker in short trail rides, wont lose all that much topend, sometimes the clutchs will shift a little further and you gain.
 
What should I gear mine down to?? Srx6 I am at 22-39 and I run the river and lakes and drive trails all about the same amount.

You could go down to 22-40 if you wanted but if it were mine i would leave it unless you have really good traciton on bottom end or that increased power to the track at holeshot will just cause it to spin even faster. Plus i like having a little bit taller gearing in the srx for the nice high speed lake and river running.
 
doesnt matter if you cut them or not, when you gear down the sled has less load and will pull the clutching easier, as the steeper gear loads the motor less making the work easier for the engine. This way you will also find out that the steeper the gearing you run the more it will over rev and will need more primary weight to be kept at the correct rpm.

Just cutting the clutchs will enable you to go further into overdrive, which isnt always faster as its more inefficent, your bending the belt in a tight radius in the secondary clutch then. Youll need to test and see which set up will give you the best mph, staying closer to 1;1 drive or getting into overdrive.

Yamaholic, you are right. I just got back from a ride on the river with a 22-39 setup and I almost got beat by a yamaha xt 600 twin on the top end. My srx6 has a 51-45 bender helix in it and the sled tops out at about 94mph. It gets there in a hurry but I am not impressed with 94!!!!!!!!!!!
 
What was your top end before? What is your clutching? Don't assume it's your gearing, tell the guru's on here what your current clutching setup is now and they can help you out. Not saying Yamaholic is wrong, as he would know more about it than I would, but you may be able to get that top speed back with some clutching.
