Today when I am doing test runs on my 2002 SRX,with sled running at idle speed I pin it and it does not quite wanna open up,like being flooded or something.Let go throttle and snap it a few times till it clears and away I go. Now I did put my carb warmer on today. It is only -9 celcius out. Will that do something.I have proper slack in my throttle and choke cables.Oil setting is stock.Have to try it later with the carb warmer switch off then.

yeah so if at idle I while snap the throttle 2 times slightly and then punch it.This seems to work good.Maybe it was because it was a wrmer day out today.

could be clogged pilots, too small or large pilots, or improperly adjusted fuel screws.

Took my SRX out for a run in the fields beside my house. It is really wet and soft the snow.It was about 4 Celcius here today and noticed as I have noticed before. When I really pin it,I am getting a bog or hesitation, feels like engine won't open up ,let go throttle and punch it again and good. This is most likely what you guys call a lean bog.I went up 2 jet sizes on my carbs a while back.Left the pilots stock at 42.5.Shouldn`t I change them to.2001 SRX`s have 40 pilots with the same jetting as I.My fuel screws are 1.5 turns open.Even a month ago when the temps were slightly below 0,I was getting the same thing happening. When I pin it really hard from a stand still, all of a sudden it is like it is starving for fuel or engine won,t open up unless I flip the throttle a few times and then punch it.Sometimes the DSC or the DCS(whatever you call it) would come on,telling me I am leaning out.
Question is ,if I go from 42.5 pilot to 40 pilot, what am I exactly doing...increasing or decreasing. If I am jetted 2 times higher then pilots should be changed and the fuel screws maybe opened more.Just need to know that I am doing the right adjustements to the carbs. If I follow the specs for the 2001 SRX,it calls for 40 pilots then.I`ll have to get the carbs off this summer and go thru them.Float specs, and cleaning really good.Synchronize the carbs also would be a must to.I will check my reeds, may replace them with Carbon Tech ones. And 1 more question. Can the head gasket mod be done to an SRX,or am I just looking for a problem.Don`t even know what they have for a head gasket on them.

you may be right there blue missle.I couldn't see any gasket material or a thickness of a gasket under the heads.I wander if those o-ring gaskets are re-usable or not?

No gasket there big guy just o rings plus a srx has enough sqwish(comp.)

i think i would try to stop tuning it till next year, just isn't cold enough..

not really tuning.I need to strip that sled down and bring it back up to snuff..if you get my drift.Like to do rings on both my sleds to if it is not to difficult.
:bling: :bling:

It's easy blue just tear into her, cly's are taperd so the rings will slide
in with the pistons.

you got your manual it's all in there bud..

Try unhooking the t.o.r switch(plug the two wires back into each other to complete the circut) and see what happens. sounds like what my 700 sx was doing before the switch went completely bad.

How do your plugs look...1)Start your sled, let idle and bring up to temp...shut down & pull your plugs...Post pics;2)Start sled and do a 1/4 throttle pull in 500-800ft range then hit the kill switch, but keep the throttle opened at 1/4 till she comes to a stop, then pull the plugs...post pics.3) same for 1/2 throttle...4)same for 3/4...5)same for full...guy's here will be able to help with what part of the carb needs fix'n...good luck

Try and set your carbs to spec and go from there. My sled ran great the last time out and was thankful for that cause it would of driven me crazy putting it away thinking I still have a problem. Turns out my stator was the root cause of all my issues.
I had put on one new coil ( which I knew was bad ) all new plug caps which Im glad I did cause the new ones are tighter than a well you can guess.
So the sled is back and running and waiting to be stored. Ill fog it and put fuel stable in and thats it till next year.
In warmer weather the sled will run like crap. Just set it up to spec and leave it till next year. Then come fall do your power valve cleaning, carb checks ( floats ) clutches and see how she runs under colder weather.
