Looking at early 1990's VMax 600( 1994 in particular) as a cheap second sled. Not being too familiar with these, can you tell me if these were a reliable sled, or a maintenance nightmare.

Anything I should look out for......or maybe is there another Yamaha in the same year/price range that would be a better bet

We have three.

Very solid motors
Parts are very easy to find for this sled
Primary clutch needs lots of attention( A Comet solves this problem!)
Rear skid needs to be taken apart and relubed at least once every two years

fishx65 will the powerbloc 50 work ok for these sleds, 1994 vmax 600?i have a 1994 600 and love it ,just tuned up the carbs yesterday and can lift the front end up high at will. 1994 vmax 600 ,1 1/2 predetor track ,ats composit skis, carbon tech reeds.very reliable sled but thirsty if you hammer it a lot.

Cougar, I'm not sure if a 50 would work or not. All three of our V-maxs have had clutch issues. If you have been replaceing a lot of roller bushings and wearing out weights I would suggest going through the clutch immediately. I just busted an arm off the spyder cuz I waited to long. I think if I had replaced the sliding sheave and cap bushings I would have been O.K.. It was the cap bushing that gave out on mine. I just got a good deal on a Comet 108 EXP so I'll let you know how it works out.
