1998 600 venture oil consumption

hello everyone. i recently purchased a 1998 venture 600 twin with smart carbs for my wife. it seems like it is burning way too much oil and it smokes like crazy at idle. my srx burns 1/4 or less the amount. does anyone know the proper setting on the oil cable. i think it may need to be adjusted, also the way its performing i think its getting way too much oil...

Down on the pump you line up the marks at WOT,

if off you adjust it here,

But first you need to;

1. adjust idle

2. then throttle end play

3. then oil pump

in that order..

Pump could be bad too, try them adjustments first..

a twin will drink almost twice as much oil as a tripple. also put motul in it if you are using ipone. will not smell as nice but will use way less.

Venture 1997

Google your problem and you will likely find 85 percent plus of the people on discussion boards say that the oil pumps were defective. I unhooked mine after too much oil consumption and I mix it with Shell V-Power Fuel and Arctic Cat APV synthetic oil. Not semi either. Hope you find this helpful
